The Rattler Review

As we head into November and the end of our first trimester, we are reflecting on things we have to be thankful for at VVCM. As I walked through classrooms over the last few weeks, I have seen quite a few acrostic poems, and I thought I would chal-lenge myself to create one sharing all the aspects I am thankful for at our awesome school.

Teamwork that exists among our students, staff, and community

Happiness at VVCM in the classroom, in the garden, in the STEAM Lab

Awesome PTO that gives 100% to our school

Not giving up when challenged with tough times

Knowledge that the teachers instill in a variety of ways

Fist bumps that keep us all connected

Unicorn hats, shirts, and backpacks that keep me smiling

Laughter that I hear from the Rattlers on the playground

RISE UP Challenge Over Thanksgiving break, think about how your family can RISE Up. Reflect on the peo-ple, pets, and ideas that bring joy and a spirit of grateful-ness in your daily life. I challenge students to share their appreciation directly with those people who have made a difference in their lives.

Happy November!

Mr. Stewart

Valley View Garden of Learning School gardens make a difference! Every seed planted sprouts a new opportunity

Nurse’s Notes NOVEMBER NURSE’S NOTES!

Once again California is the hot spot for wildfires… we have had many reminders in the sky as to their presence with smoke. At BUSD, our school sites monitor AQI as air quality changes utilizing two sites to monitor for air quality in general. Sites such as Air-Now (EPA regulated) and PurpleAir sites provide us with an objective numeric value to review for indoor recess, PE or lunch breaks. Keeping students in school may actually help to limit their outdoor activity as we monitor the air quality and restrict outdoor activities should the AQI be at challenging or unhealthy levels.

Air Quality Resource Sites: AIRNOW PURPLEAIR https://airnow.gov/ https://www.purpleair.com/map?#11/38.6572/-121.0737

Does your child have asthma? Or any breathing or other significant medical concerns? Make sure our health team is aware! Contact your child’s school to confirm we have an alert or plan for your child… Here’s the health team:

NOVEMBER IS NATIONAL DIABETES AWARENESS MONTH: Do you know… about Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)? During the winter months, BUSD typically has had one or more students diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The T1D symp-toms can often be mistaken for common illnesses such as flu or a cold. Misdiagnosis can have tragic consequences, so learning the warning signs can save a life. Early diagnosis is critical to treatment. PLEASE, get to know the warning signs for T1D in chil-dren and young adults… Knowing these signs (which may occur suddenly) can save a life: Extreme thirst Frequent urination Increased appetite Sudden weight loss Sudden vision changes Drowsiness, lethargy Heavy, labored breathing Fruity or sweet breath odor Nighttime bedwetting Altered or loss of consciousness EXTREME FATIGUE Hunger with weight loss If your child or someone else you know begins to experience these symptoms, contact your pediatrician immediately. Please share what you've learned with others you know. More information, myths, and support for T1D can be found here: https://www.jdrf.ca/t1dlookslikeme/

WHAT ELSE? How healthy is that air?

Don’t Forget: MEDICATIONS - ALL medications at school require a permission form- even over the coun-ter cough drops or throat numbing spray. Consider sending lifesavers, peppermints, lemon drops or something similar instead!!! Online link: https://www.buckeyeusd.org/site/handlers/filedownload.ashx?

Helpful Information

We wanted to remind you of a few safety precautions you can take to keep students safe. Please

remember:

If alarms are going off at the school, whether it's a drill or a real emergency, please do

not drop your child off. Please leave the school property and you may return when the

alarm has been silenced. We appreciate your dedication to the safety of your child and

all students of Valley View

Students should arrive no earlier than 7:45 a.m. If a student needs to arrive early, please

make arrangements with the Extended Day Program as there is no supervision on cam-

pus before 7:45 a.m. Students should be picked up from school no later than 2:25 p.m.

Ask your students to cross the streets in the crosswalks available around the Valley View

campus.

No parking:

in the school parking lot unless it is a designated parking spot.

in the parking lot pull-through area during school hours.

Forgotten Lunch Procedure:

Please try to remember lunches in the morning. If a student has forgotten his/her lunch at home,

parents may drop the lunch off in the office. Students need to check the office before going to lunch

and may pick up his/her lunch then. Please be sure your child’s name is on the lunch.

Telephone Usage:

The telephone in the office is a business phone. Students may use it only for an emergency call.
