James Wibben James Lawrence Wibben, 97, of Yankton passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the Avera Yankton Care Center. Funeral service will be on Monday, September 13, 2010 at United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m., in Gayville, SD with Pastor Brook McBride officiating. Burial will be at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton at a later date. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Iverson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home in Vermillion from 5:30 to 7:30 with family present at 6:30 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. James was born on August 2, 1913 in Ireton, IA to Eben and Tina (Balkema) Wibben. He married Lillian Kulish on July 5, 1936 and had two children - Marvin and Betty Ann, to make their family complete. James farmed for many years in the Gayville, Meckling, and Wakonda areas before moving to Yankton and becoming a mainte- nance man at the Nancy Home. James worked at the Nancy Home for 9 years until he retired. On February 15, 1987, he was remarried to Mable Dwyer and they enjoyed their time together until Mable passed away on May 1, 1995. James enjoyed fishing, going to see the senior citizens, and always had a quick reply or comment. James is survived by his daugh- ter, Betty (Max) Quick of Gayville, SD; granddaughter, June (Wes) Tripp of Gayville, SD; grandsons, Ben (Shawn) Wibben of Scotland, SD and Bruce (Ingrid) Wibben of Danville, CA; 4 great-grandchildren and 1 step great-granddaughter; 7 great-great-grandchildren; 1 step great-great-great-grandson; broth- er, Harold Wibben of Illinois; and sisters, Lois Fystro of Illinois and Adeline Jans of Parker, SD. He is preceded in death by par- ents, Eben and Tina (Balkema)Wibben; first wife, Lillian Kulish and second wife, Mabel Dwyer; son, Marvin Wibben; broth- ers; Lloyd, Clarence, George, Willie, Mervin; sisters, Tillie Fystro and Marina Christensen; and two infant siblings in childbirth. From the royalty a “Pioneer Prince” and “Pioneer Princess” will be selected. The Yankton School District announces its 2010Pioneer Days schedule.

YSD has prided itself on exciting and unique home-coming activities ever since 1925 when homecoming firstoriginated. Over the years the activities have rangedfrom a snake dance through the city to parades.

On Friday, Sept. 3, seniors chose the 2010 Royalty.From the royalty a “Pioneer Prince” and “PioneerPrincess” will be selected. In alphabetical order they are:“Pioneer Prince” candidates: Austin Anderson, JosephBoudreau, Zach Nolz, Powers Schurrer, and Aaric Willard;“Pioneer Princess” candidates: Whitney Duarte, SophieHoltzmann, Amy Johnson, Jessica Nelson, and MichaelaWuestewald. Pat Kortan, Cassi Pietz, and TeresaMartindale, are Pioneer Days coordinators.
