The U.S. Government has been designed to help junior high, high school, and adult education students gain a better understanding of the many activities and services of the United States government.
There are 24 lessons. Each lesson consists of four study pages which reinforce 14 points to be learned about each topic.
Study Page #1 – Crossword puzzle answers can be located in the World Book Encyclopedia.*
Study Page #2 – Definitions can be found in the glossary. Evaluation questions are intended to give students an opportunity to express personal opinions about aspects of each topic.
Study Page #3 – Fill-in-the-blank questions are provided to give students a chance to review the 14 points learned in the crossword puzzle.
Study Page #4 – Matching tests are included to further reinforce key terms and concepts.
Suggestions for Use:
Day #1: Introduce students to the new lesson. Provide crossword puzzle page and World Book encyclopedias. Have students work alone or in small groups. Pair faster students with slower students.
Day #2: Write the entire list of answers on the blackboard so that those students who have not completed their puzzles may key in on the important concepts. Conduct teacher-student discussion on various aspects of the 14 points included in the puzzle.
Day #3: Have students work on the definition and evaluation questions on Study Page #2.
Day #4: Have students complete the fill-in-the-blank questions on Study Page #3.
Day #5: Have students take the matching tests on Study Page #4.
*The author used the World Book Encyclopedia to create these lessons. Definitions can also be found in other encyclopedias, textbooks, and online resources.
