Semi Final 14th March, 2015NWCC Juniors vs Southern Spirit (Purple) at Mount Penang Narara Green 2/35 (Average 18) defeated Southern Spirit Purple 5/53 (Average 10.6)

Great win to Narara. After losing the toss and being asked to bowl first we were off to a flying start with a wicket on the 2nd ball to Keegan. Jack, Koby, Jayden, Emily and James kept up the pressure with some very accurate bowling for not many runs scored against them. Then Lachie came on to pick up the second wicket; quickly followed by another to Keegan to give him 2 for the match. Jack and Jayden picked up the other 2 wickets to get us a total of 5 wickets.

Off to a bit of a shaky start (losing a wicket on the 3rd ball), but then Lachie and James steadied the ship brilliantly until an unfortunate accident. That accident involved James colliding with an opposition player whilst taking a quick single – this resulted in James having to retire hurt! After that we only lost 1 more wicket, with Koby and Keegan looking very solid in the middle for ‘no wickets lost’ in their partnership which was a great effort. Then Emily and Jayden finished it off with another ‘wicketless partnership’ to give us victory and entry to the Grand Final!

Grand Final 14th March, 2015NWCC Juniors vs Kincumber at Mount PenangNarara Green 6/31 (Average 5.17) defeated by Kincumber 6’s 7/53 (Average 7.5)What a fantastic game of cricket played by both teams, with the game going down

to the last ball!! Unfortunately the result didn’t go our way but the whole team played out of their skin. After being sent in to bat, James and Jack got us off to a solid start without losing a wicket against some very accurate and fast bowling! This was followed up by Koby and Keegan batting well for the loss of only 1 wicket in their partnership. Jayden and Emily faced up to some very fast bowling, backed up by some brilliant catching - therefore unfortunately losing 3 wickets. However they batted very well against some quality bowling. Our bowling effort was the best all year, and this was backed up by some brilliant fielding. Once again Keegan led the way with 2 wickets to his credit. Jack, James, Jayden and Lachie shared the rest; and this was backed up by some very tight bowling from Koby and Emily. Lachie bowled the last over needing 2 wickets for the young Lions to claim victory. He bowled his best spell of the year to claim 1, but unfortunately some very determined batting prevented the 2nd wicket falling. A narrow win to the young Kincumber Griffins.

Congratulations to my team on a fantastic season - you thoroughly deserved the medals presented to you after the game.

U15B Match Report (combined Narara-Lisarow team)

Semi Final 14th March, 2015Lisarow-Narara vs The Entrance at BluehavenThe Entrance won the toss and elected to bat first. Initially, all didn’t go completely to plan for us with their openers making it to 30 without loss. But some more accurate bowling, combined with sharp catching and fielding saw the wickets begin to tumble, and after 40 overs they were all out for 92. Only 2 boundaries were hit during their innings and the wickets were shared amongst 4 bowlers, with each taking 2 wickets each. Josh Moffitt 2 for 4, Luke Abra-Colnan 2 for 16, Jakob Madden 2 for 4 and Jackson Hughes 2-0 off only 1 over !!The run chase started with a flurry until Luke Abra-Colnan was run-out with his score at for 55. We then lost another 2 quick wickets before we reached the required target in 18 overs. Best batters were Abra-Colnan (55) and E Frazer (21)

Mal BarsingWho was your first NWCC captain?Andrew Smith

Who is your favourite cricket player? All time: Steven Waugh, Current: Ryan Harris

What do you think is your personal cricketing highlight so far?It would be hard to go past 60 and 10 for 41 Vs Gosford in 2002.

Is this your most enjoyable moment playing cricket so far?Probably not, that day may well go down as my best performance for the club, but I’ve had far more enjoyable days. Rolling Kincumber for 28 in a Grand Final, first ton for the club (finally) with some good mates and a bowling club of supporters watching on. Surprisingly I look on two days fairly fondly- 0-2 off 11 Vs Lisarow at Sohier, 10 consecutive maidens to start the innings when H had said “get tight” - then hooked me when I leaked a 2 in the 11th over. The other was a ‘Slog-Sweep’ in Nepal into the rampant field of wacky weed….

What do you want to be when you get old?Not Old or Nick Lulham.

What is the strangest thing you have ever seen on a cricket field?Goats and buffalo in Nepal, marijuana in the outfield in Nepal, Mick Cross getting caught and bowled off silly mid-on’s shoulder.

Narara-Lisarow combined U15CsSemi Final 14th March, 2015Narara-Lisarow vs The Entrance at Garnet Adcock No7

The Entrance elected to bat first and were quickly in trouble after an early breakthrough from Dale Fish. Ryan Jones followed up with two well-deserved wickets including a great leg-side keeper’s catch by Harry Moriarty low down off the glove. Lachie Fitzgerald got a wicket thanks to a one-handed catch from Mike Hood who was shielding his eyes from the sun with the other. It rolled up his arm and back into his fingers! Zane Montgomery snared a couple in the middle as our recently promoted Under 13B players, Thomas Owen and Seamus Heaphey-Millen each took a wicket. Harry Moriarty chimed in with two late wickets as he knocked out some poles. The Seagulls all out for 61. In reply we made a steady start as Liam Hassall and Ryan J batted patiently. We then lost three quick wickets before lunch to have us 3-33. After lunch, Thomas joined Ryan J and they moved us to 57 before Ryan J (25) fell. We lost another quick wicket before Lachie (12) joined Thomas (35no) to steer us to victory. We batted on to give each side

a bit more cricket and ended up 9-120. A good win off the back of some really good efforts. We’re now ready for the challenge of Brisbane Water who are undefeated with a healthy quotient in our competition this season.Paul Moriarty

Semi-Final 14th and 15th March, 2015NWCC vs Wyong District Cricket club at Garnet Adcock No1

A rain-delayed, see-sawing, riveting, and nerve-wracking semi-final saw the Lions of Narara-Wyoming bow out of their charge to the Grand Final this year with an amazing 3rd tied game this season.

The facts only tell part of the story, but we probably don’t have the time, the space (and perhaps not even the words!) to convey the full narrative for both players and supporters anyway, so we’ll try to stick with what’s in the book.

Skipper Andy Ryan won the toss, and put the kangaroos in to bat. Our premiers got off to a great start with 2 wickets snaffled for only 4 runs, but then one K. Harmsworth came to the crease. Even so, the wickets continued to tumble to the point where the Roos were 6 for 46. But big Kaine was not to be denied, and managed to score 94 runs out of Wyong’s total of 150 runs (all out) after 45 overs. Best of our bowlers was Mark Smith who finished up with the figures 12 overs (4 maidens), 4w for 41, backed up by the ever-sprightly Poppy Murray bowing out of this season with figures of 13 overs (5 maidens), 3w for 28.

Following more rain delays, Narara got their turn to bat, and though their figures were better than the opposition, it was not an overpowering comparison. At 4 for 42, even at 6 for 61 we had the mathematical edge on paper, but could our men go the full distance? With Peter Gallichan already at the crease, skipper Andy joined him with the Lions on 61 to begin an inspiring partnership of 71 runs that got them so much closer to the target. Trying to keep the stream of runs flowing, Andy holed out to a catch just inside the boundary (7 for 132). Peter batted gamely on with his next partners, managing to get the team score to 148 before being run out in the final over – 3 runs to get, last over, last wicket !!

Alas, it was not to be a fairytale ending this time – Wyong’s score was equalled at the final ball, but a tie was just not quite enough to see them through to the Grand Final this time. Best of our batsman was clearly Peter Gallichan with his spirited 70, with scores from Matthew Friend (19 runs) and partnership batsman Andy Ryan (22 runs).

Thankyou Premier Division, for a very, very entertaining match.

Semi Final 14th and 15th March, 2015NWCC vs Northern Power at Fagan Park

Wet weather and uncovered decks don’t mix, and unfortunately we lost some time on day one waiting for a start. The deck looked like it could do a fair bit, so the Skipper (aka the wookie) on winning the toss, invited Northern Power to have a bat.

Unfortunately, we didn’t bowl early like a team that had the best of the bowling until Lachlan Head (Heady) entered the fray and removed the two openers quickly. At tea Northern Power were 2 for 55 off 15, having me question my decision to bowl. Thankfully, we ground into our work after tea and stemmed the runs, and at the end of play had The Power 7 for 148.

We lost more time at the start of day two,

and when we finally did start, we got 5.1 overs into the day before lightning and rain again stopped play. The subsequent delay caused the Northerners to declare their innings closed. Heady was the pick of the bowlers with 18.1 overs (4 maidens), 5 for 41, ably backed up by the Wookie, 23 overs (8 maidens), 2 for 43.

When we finally got to bat, it was a simple matter of surviving 30 overs to force a draw which would be enough to see us through. With only one hiccup, Stuart Owen (Sweetie) and Aras Baird (Sara) saw us to 1 for 46 of 21 overs, so successfully locking us into a Grand Final berth.
