A valediction to the class of 2007
A lasting impressionDear fellow members of the class of 2007, We regret to inform you the state of Ohiohas recently passed a new law creating athirteenth grade. No longer will we begraduating June 1, 2007. We will be forcedto complete ONE MORE YEAR of highschool. If you do not complete this finalyear, you will be thrown in prison for noless than 20 years. In prison you will beforced to finish high school anyway, so justget it over with here at Loveland. If you believed this, even for a moment,we don’t know if you are qualified tograduate. We just thought we’d pull onelast trick. “Last” is a funny word, isn’t it?We’ve all heard it many times in the pastyear. Our LAST homecoming. Our LASTfootball game. Our LAST high schoolspring break. Our LAST day of high school. Our LAST chance to see the people we haveknown for so many years. What we must focus on, though, are allthe firsts in our future. Our FIRST time livingwithout our parents. Our FIRST time facingfinancial responsibility. The FIRST time wemust declare our future career. The FIRSTtime we won’t be penalized for being tardyto class. For many of us our first day of collegewill be filled with anxiety because we do notknow what lies ahead. For the past twelveyears, we have lived securely in the comfortzone known as Loveland. Now we mustleave behind the familiarity of our home andfriends and approach the world as adults.
It will be the first time we are living onour own, with no one to do our laundry ormake our beds. No one will be there to makesure we go to class or study. Even thoughsome of us have been eighteen for almost ayear, we will finally be recognized as adults. As you move on to different people anddifferent places, never forget what a vitalpart your four years here at Loveland haveplayed in shaping you as a person. Takeyour best experiences with you, and try toforget about all of the homework, all of thetests, all of the drama, and that one timeyou locked yourself in your car. These past four years we have all hadgood experiences and experiences we wishwe could forget. Remember to carry withyou all of the lessons you have learned andall of the memories you have created. Highschool is not about the destination; it isabout the journey.

Upon first arriving at Loveland HighSchool as freshmen, we were greeted withthe loving chant, “Go home, freshmen.” Itwas at this moment that we, the members ofthe class of 2007, were officially inductedinto the high school. This moment occurredfour years ago, when we were just gettingacquainted with our new schedules.Although entering high school seemedintimidating at the time, we went througheach year meeting new people, learning tobe our own individual and making newmemories. It is hard to believe that graduation isright around the corner; some are sad toleave, others are excited, but everyone isready to take the next step. We have all
come so far since 2003. We’ve seen formerclasses graduate and felt their excitement;now it’s finally the class of 2007’s time toshine. As we embark upon one of the largestchanges in our lives, we reflect back to thenumerous memories that Loveland HighSchool has provided: Friday night football games, Homecomingdances, winning Homecoming week for twoyears in a row, powder puff, mud volley ball, hall decorating, lawn painting, gettingiFlurtz, rocking out at Battle of the Bands, getting our licenses, missing school due tothe gas leak, snow days, raising money forthe Invisible Children of Uganda, dress updays for Homecoming, senior lunches, deciding what we will do after graduation, ordering caps and gowns, senior week, senior superlatives, prom and finally June1, 2007, the final milestone for us seniors. Congratulations class of 2007. We didit! We survived four years of high schooland have gained much life experience in theprocess. We wish everyone success withtheir future plans. As we venture into the“real world”, we will always be connectedby this common thread, known as LovelandHigh School. High school is a once in alifetime experience, and although we willnever relive these years, we have thememories forever. To all the underclassmen, the class of 2007 has made a lasting imprinton the school, good luck filling our shoes. So, Loveland High School, “Good-bye toYou.”

Congratulations
Class of 2007!
“In a completely rational society, the bestof us would aspire to be teachers and therest of us would have to settle for somethingless, because passing civilization along fromone generation to the next ought to be thehighest honor and responsibility anyonecould have.” These words spoken by LeeIococa lie tattered and worn, taped to thecorner of my desk in Room 116. They havelain there for many years. While the papermay be frayed, the message remains strong,a message that inspires me every day andreminds me of how blessed I have been. For forty years I have taught here inLoveland, teaching English at all levels, 7-12. I have chaperoned dances, sponsored
clubs and writing teams, directed plays, assisted with curriculum development, sponsored the Literary Magazine andattended manygraduations. I taughtduring the rebellious60s, the peace-seeking 70s, the self-loving 80s, thetechnological 90sand the ever-changing 2000’s.Each decadeproduced its ownchallenges andrewards. Through allof these years oneconstant remains: Ihave met thousands of remarkable youngmen and women, students who have
become today’s writers, lawyers, policemen, firemen, technicians, doctors, politicians, artists, teachers scientists etc. Their
successes are due inpart to their time herein Loveland schools. My own affiliationwith Loveland has verydeep roots. I am aLoveland grad as areboth of my parents. Mymother and I both wrotearticles for the LHSnewspaper and myfather illustrated theyearbook when he wasa senior. I am honoredto have the
opportunity to write one more article. I feel
that I have been a student here forever. NowI get to “graduate” with the class of 2007! The Class of 2007—too many awesomeindividuals to name! From the Abby’s tothe Zack’s, they are hard working, focusedyoung people with lofty goals. They seebeyond high school and are focused on thegreat things they want to accomplish in theirlives. We send them into the world and praythat they live their visions. To each member of this Class of 2007, Ioffer a final thought: As we “graduate”Loveland High School (certainly anappropriate name!), may we alwaysremember with heart-felt gratitude this littlecommunity and all of the administrators, counselors, teachers, coaches, secretariesand custodians who have so admirablyprepared us for this next road on our journeycalled “life.”
