Greek mythology tells the story of Orchis, a beautiful young man

doomed by his robust libido. Devolved into an animalistic state by unbridled lust, Orchis was devoured by wild beasts, and the Gods transformed his body into a beautiful orchid plant with distinctive tubers fashioned to resemble the parts of Orchis’ anatomy which brought him to his doom. Dating back at least 90 million years and distantly related to asparagus, orchids have been used for centuries in herbal remedies for everything from aphrodisiacs to fever. They are also

among the rarest and most delicate blooming plants on Earth, prized by botanists and home gardeners alike.

Lines Orchids, a fourth-generational family business, has been bringing blooms to the Signal Mountain community just outside Chattanooga since 1947, and has just opened a new shop at Warehouse Row. In addition to selling the highest quality orchids, they also offer unique, one-of-a-kind ceramic, glass and pottery pieces to accent your favorite flowers. Visit them at linesorchids.com.

Public House Public House chef/owner Nathan Lindley recommends ordering pork tenderloin & grits with bourbon molasses this Valentine’s Day. Hearty and homey, this feel-good meal kicks comfort food up a notch with impeccable preparation and the freshest local ingredients. Another meal Lindley loves is the Public House fried chicken with mac-n-cheese, a steal at only $15. Arrive early to leave yourself time to start off with a cocktail at The Social, Lindley’s speakeasy-inspired downtown bar, located adjacent to Public House. Make your reservations now at publichousechattanooga.com or by calling 423.266.3366.

Southern Burger Co.Christian Siler and the crew at Southern Burger Co. started off 2012 with a bang, opening a brand-new brick-and-mortar restaurant in the mercantile at Warehouse Row. Siler brought the food truck revolution to Chattanooga when he launched the first Southern Burger Co. truck, converted from an old Alabama fire department rescue vehicle. With his new digs at Warehouse Row, Siler’s love of great burgers has come full circle. It should come as no surprise that he recommends a good old Southern Co. burger & fries combo this Valentine’s Day. Rock V-Day old school by treating your crush to America’s favorite meal done the Southern Burger Co. way.

Petunia’s Silver Jalapeño

The barbecue sandwich at Petunia’s Silver Jalapeño in the mercantile at Warehouse Row has been called “the best pork butt sandwich in the South.” Juicy, sloppy, topped with hand-cut, homemade slaw on a yummy barbecue-sauce-soaking bun, the barbecue sandwich from Petunia’s gives you the perfect flirt-friendly line this Valentine’s Day. “You’ve got a little sauce there,” you might begin, reaching out to dab his (or her) cheek with a napkin. Before you know it, the barbecue sauce won’t be the only hot item on the menu.

LOVE: Great EatsWith the addition of Southern Burger Company to Warehouse Row’s stable of eateries, the Row is closer than ever to becoming a downtown Chattanooga dining destination. What’s not to love?

LOVE: Personal ServicesFrom makeup at The Cosmetic Market to hair and spa services at Level 10 Salon and core-strengthening workouts at Pilates Chattanooga

The Cosmetic MarketPerfume is a great, traditional gift for Valentine’s Day, and this year, the crew at The Cosmetic Market particularly recommends Bond No. 9’s Chinatown fragrance, $235 for a 3.3 oz bottle. Chinatown blends bergamot, peach blossom, guaiac wood gardenia, cardamom, vanilla, tuberose, peony, sandalwood, patchouli, orange flower and cedarwood for a scent that’s sugar and spice and everything nice. Combining traditional floral scents from the Orient with Asian spice and incense notes, Chinatown is as exotic and sexy as the New York neighborhood for which it is named.

Level 10 Salon The gang at Level 10 Salon recommends their photo facial for Valentine’s Day. Any lover of the spotlight, male or female, will relish the chance to bathe in waves of light; add Level 10’s photo facial treatment to any other Level 10 facial service for only $50. The Level 10 photo facial uses infrared and visible red light waves to stimulate cellular activity and rejuvenate the skin; it’s especially effective following a microdermabrasion treatment or a full facial with exfoliation. Once pores have been opened by microdermabrasion or exfoliation, the photo facial can penetrate even deeper, plumping the skin to give you or your Valentine that “special glow.”

Pilates ChattanoogaBy the time Valentine’s Day rolls around, you and your loved one may have already started backsliding on your 2012 health and fitness goals. Get back on track with duet classes from Pilates Chattanooga. Duets give you the benefit of private instruction with the comfort and affordability of sharing instruction with a friend or loved one. Single duet sessions start at $40, or you can purchase packages of 10 sessions starting at $330. Call 423.493.0775 or visit pilateschattanooga.com for more information.

Love: Yves DelormeYves Delorme enthusiastically recommends Cyclamen bedding this Valentine’s Day for its subtle, feminine allure and delicious 310 thread count

The word “cyclamen” is derived from the Greek word “kyklos,” meaning ‘circle,” and

there’s nothing that will bring you around full-circle more than the space in which you sleep and wake. Cyclamen bedding from Yves Delorme is inspired by the Petit Palais in Paris. Imagining cyclamens Marie Antoinette may have planted around her front stoop, Yves Delorme designers daubed splashes of pink and green across a subtle white-on-white Egyptian cotton background to create this luxurious 300-thread-count satin weave bedding—the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for yourself or for someone you love!

Yves Delorme recently renewed its lease at Warehouse Row and has plans to improve its current space with new paint, new fixtures and new merchandising. Improvements will begin in the first quarter of 2012 and should not impact store operations. Check the Warehouse Row facebook page at facebook.com/WarehouseRow for news and updates on Yves Delorme construction and other Warehouse Row happenings.

Well-dressed Southern gentleman have always been fashionable, but Southern

men’s fashion isn’t all straw boaters and seersucker suits anymore. Modern Southern fashion, as exemplified by clothiers like Billy Reid, Peter Nappi, Ledbury and Sid Mashburn, has broken the bounds of regionalism and become part of a larger movement of vintage American style that is reflected in both fashion and home décor. Such is the case with bourbon. Inspired by the relaxed pace of the South, Modern Southern has a cavalier attitude about rules. Southern men mix plaids. We roll the cuffs of our jeans (after all, one never knows when the urge to fish will strike), and we wear boots to formal affairs. For great tips on dressing, drinking, and even decorating like a proper Southern gentleman, check out Bearings Guide or Garden and Gun Magazine. I know I’ve had my eye on a pair of Bartolomeo boots by Peter Nappi ever since they showcased at Westside Provision District’s “Tinsel and Twine” pop-up shopping event in Atlanta this past Christmas.
