SUNDAY: 15 MAY: PENTECOST SUNDAY
FROM THE PASTOR Dear parishioners, Today we celebrate Pentecost and the birthday of the Church. There is no church without the Holy Spirit. So when the Father and the Son sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the Church was born. We have re-ceived the Holy Spirit at our baptism and confirmation and indeed through all the sacraments and our prayer life. Have a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit like with the Father and the Son. An image to help you re-late to the Holy Spirit is that of the artist. The Holy Spirit is the Divine artist of our soul. Artists make beautiful things. The Holy Spirit wants to make us beautiful like the image of Jesus. So be open to the power of the Holy Spirit in your life. Receive the gifts He wants to give you, even the charis-matic gifts. Use them for the good of the Body of Christ and the spread of the gospel. A good website to learn about the Holy Spirit is www.thewild-gooseisloose.com. Check it out! Speaking of the Holy Spirit I can now report to you about our Con-firmation Mass with Bishop Douglas Deshotel. He came on May 4th and confirmed 45 of our students and 3 from St. Joseph Church. Besides the bishop there were 4 priests and 1 deacon. People were impressed with the numbers in the sanctuary and the beauty of the celebration. Confirmation is a fresh outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and another sacrament of initiation. Thanks to Tiffany Alfred and all who made our celebration so beautiful. Students, keep the faith and spread it! The renovation is coming along nicely in the rectory. We are fin-ished in the back area except for the meeting room which will be last. Next is the office area so please be patient with our progress. Today we will have our Sacred Heart Baccalaureate Mass and com-mencement exercises. Congratulations to all of our graduates here and elsewhere. Keep the faith as well as you go out into the world. May the Holy Spirit go with you. Thanks to the Sacred Heart School Foundation for donating $25,000 to our kindergarten roof repair. We thank you very much!
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Thomas Voorhies
A laywoman who was taking a Scripture course discovered a burglar in her kitchen. Since she had no weapon to scare him off, she raised her hand and
shouted, “Acts 2:38.” The burglar froze and didn’t move, so the woman called 911. The police
arrived and were amazed to find the burglar still frozen where he stood. “What did you say to him?” they asked her. She replied that she had just quoted scripture to him: “Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven.”
As the cops put the burglar in the squad car, they asked him, “Why did her scripture verse scare you so much?”
“Scripture?” said the burglar, “I thought she said she had an axe and two 38’s!”

“Adopt-A-Baby” 1 Month Update
Thank you for praying for me. I am one month old now. I have a heart pumping my blood and a backbone. I am very, very tiny and I
appreciate your prayers!ONE MONTH DEVELOPING BABY – Your
spiritually adopted baby has been quite active over the past month. Already your baby is
10,000 times bigger than at conception. Your baby has developed the foundations of his
brain, spinal cord, and nervous system by the 20th day. His heart began to beat on the 21st day. His heart is pumping blood through its own circulatory system and the blood type
can be different from his mother. Your baby is most vulnerable during the next
month to being aborted. Pray that the Lord of Life might move the heart of his mother
to give him the most precious gift of all – the
gift of life!

Stewardship Moments…Pentecost Sunday: May 14th & 15th:
In today’s first reading we encounter the Holy Spirit who at Pentecost came rushing in over Jesus’ followers like a powerful wind. It must have been a frightening experience for them. But their great acts of prophetic witness began when the Spirit drew them out of their “comfort zones.” Jesus said the Holy Spirit, like the wind, blows where it wills; into the lives of good stewards, empowering them to perform wondrous acts of healing, reconciliation and evangelization; encouraging them to proclaim the Gospel with boldness and confidence. All of that is a little beyond the comfort zone where most of us live our lives. This week, reflect on how the Holy Spirit may be calling you out of your personal comfort zone.
PLEASE REMEMBER THE SICK IN YOUR PRAYERS: Fr. Jonathan Janise- Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Church, Fr. Gene Tremie, Deacon Ray Gibson, Jr., Dean Prudhomme, Brandon Fuselier, Leslie Ritter, and
Kary Fontenot
Weekly Reflection from Pope Francis:
“Human beings, whenever they judge, look no farther than the surface, whereas the Father looks into the very depths of the soul. ... To refrain from judgment and condemnation
means, in a positive sense, to know how to accept the good in every person and to spare him any suffering that
might be caused by our partial judgment and our
presumption to know everything about him.
But this is still not sufficient to express mercy. Jesus
asks us also to forgive and to give. To be instruments
of mercy because it was we who
first received mercy from
God.”
— Pope Francis

Ministry for the Dying
We are members of the Secular Order of Disclaimed Carmelites. As sons & daughters of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, it is the duty of all Secular Carmelites to pray for the salvation of souls. Because “the most important hour of life is the hour of death,” the Secular Carmelites from Ville Platte have chosen as our apostolate to pray the souls of the dying. After calling a priest, if you would like for us to pray for someone who is near death, please call: Karen at (337) 336-1775. ALL CALLS ARE CONFIDENTIAL.
Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration with Benediction
On Holy Thursday, the night that Our Lord gave us His Body and Blood, he asked his disciples to spend one hour with him in prayer. Sacred Heart of Jesus Church has a Eucharistic Holy Hour with Exposition and Solemn Benediction on the third Thursday of each month.
The next Holy Hour falls on Thursday, May 19th from 5:30-6:30pm. All are invited to attend!
