Is a dry powder (every grain of which is a powerful FIREDESTROYING AGENT), put up in decorated métal tubes,22 inches long, 2 inches in diameter, with press cap-cover,with a strong ring in the same, by which the tube is suspendedfrom a nail or hook driven in the wall.

This morning tbe Prince of Wales, as Président of the

Society of Arts, reeeived the Members of the Council,

and presented the Albert Medal for 1907 to Lord Cromer.

visfted the Prince and Princess of Wales and remained to

Théâtre last night and saw the performanoe of LadyBarbarity.

The Prince of Wales, by spécial désire,witnessed a rem&rkable démonstration of fire-extieguish-ing at Marlborough Hoose yesterday. The inventer andhis agent conducted the display, and the Hon. Six W.Carington was présent with the Prince. The test was atevere one. A wooden shed had been erected for theoccasion, tarred wooden battrais were placed inside, andtho whole stracture and contents saturated withpetroleum. The extinguisher was described by theinventor as a diamond dry powder extincteur. It wasrtated that the powder was free from ail acids and sub-stances of a corrosive nature, and was quito harmless tothe most dolicate of fabrics, although a most powerfulflre-destroying agent. The powder was contained ia amétal tube. When the shed was ignited with a matchthe Prince frankly expressed donbtas to whether it wouldbe possible to check it by anything short of a déluge ofwater. The fierceness of the fire was increased byadditional petroleum, and then the demonstratorextinguished the blaze completely in the space of a fewseconds by throwing his powder upon and within the shed.The fire was relighted and the timber of the shed per-mitted to get well allght, and again the extincteur over-came the fire almost immediately. At the request of thePrince a considérable quantity of motor spirit wasignited, but this also was immediately subdued. Theexperiment being repeated by request of his Royal High-ness, Band was used instead of the extincteur, but withyery unsatisfaotory results. The Prince was so muqhimpressed by the démonstration *that he ordered hisgarage and raotor-cars, as well as his Londor/ andFrogmore residencos, to be supplied immediately withthe powder.
