Gathering WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

PRELUDE “Sing, O My Tongue” Thomas Eisnor -M. Dupré (1886-1971)

“Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you.” Romans 15:7

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church warmly welcomes people of any age, race, nationality, sexual orientation, life circumstance, and physical or mental capability.

GATHERING SONG “Dearest Jesus, at Your Word” ELW #520

P Blessed be the holy Trinity,☩ one God, the God of manna, the God of miracles, the God of mercy.

C Amen.

P Drawn to Christ and seeking God’s abundance, let us confess our sin. Silence is kept for reflection.

P God, our provider,

C help us. It is hard to believe there is enough to share.

We question your ways when they differ from the ways of the world in which we live. We

turn to our own understanding rather than trusting in you. We take offense at your teachings and your ways. Turn us again to you. Where else can we turn? Share with us the words of eternal life and feed us for life in the world. Amen.

P Beloved people of God: in Jesus, the manna from heaven, you are fed and nourished. By Jesus, the worker of miracles, there is always more than enough.

Through Jesus, ☩ the bread of life, you are shown God’s mercy: you are forgiven and loved into abundant life.

C Amen.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

P The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C And also with you.

A 1It is good to give thanks to the LORD,

to sing praises to your name, O Most High;

C to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night,

A to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre.

C For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

A The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

C They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God.

A In old age they still produce fruit; they are always green and full of sap,

C showing that the LORD is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

APOSTLES CREED

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION (As the Minister closes each petition with the words, “Lord, in your mercy,” worshipers respond with the words, “hear our prayer.”)

C I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our

Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the

Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Or GIVEPLUS If you would like to take part in this offering opportunity, please speak to a Stewardship Committee member or contact the GSLC office. Your offering may be turned in at the table in the Entryway following the service.

Meet Our Interim Pastor Good Shepherd Lutheran Church also welcomes the Rev. Dr. Ruth E. Hamilton to our service as well this morning. Bishop Strickland, our council and Personnel Committee are excited that Pr. Ruth will begin serving as the Interim Pastor on June 15. We are blessed that she has an expertise in many areas not the least of which are churches in transition. For twelve years, Pastor Hamilton was a member of the staff of the churchwide ELCA Office of the Secretary, serving in various capacities, including Administrator of the Archives and Assistant to the Secretary. Pastor Hamilton served as Candidacy and Leadership Manager for Region 9 of the ELCA (the Southeast) as well as the director for ministries in chaplaincy, pastoral counseling, and clinical education from March 2017-May 2021. She previously was the pastor at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Atlanta, secretary of the Southeastern Synod, and interim dean of Conference 3. She has served as interim pastor at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Atlanta; First United Lutheran Church, Kennesaw; and All Saints Lutheran Church, Lilburn. She was ordained in 2005, after she received her Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and a call from The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Luke, Chicago, IL. Her B.A. degree is from Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, and she earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. Prior to entering the ministry, Pastor Hamilton taught English language and literature at a number of colleges and universities and served on the staff of the Newberry Library in Chicago. She is the mother of sons Geoff (Maria) and Greg (Meredith) as well as the proud grandmother of Teddy (8).

Meet Pastor Michael Jannett Assistant to the Bishop for Formation and Communication Much of Pastor Jannett's faith formation occurred in the ELCA Southeastern Synod, where he was a member of All Saints, Lilburn, GA, for his middle school, high school, and college years. During his college years, he was active in the campus ministry of Georgia Tech and even served on the board for one year. Prior to his entrance into candidacy, he was the youth director at All Saints for one year. In 2007, he earned an MDiv from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbia, SC, and was ordained at Rock of Ages, Stone Mountain, GA, on June 30.

Pastor Jannett’s first call (2007-2011) was to serve as pastor of St. James, Greeneville, TN, where he embraced his identity as a parish pastor with a kind, caring rural congregation. Beginning in 2011, he served Advent, Murfreesboro, TN, helping the congregation connect to God, to one another, and to the wider community. Pastor Jannett has held leadership roles in synod and regional youth ministry, in events like Affirm, Teens Encounter Christ (TEC), Happening, All-State Youth Gatherings, and ELCA Youth Gatherings. He also enjoys bringing his Georgia Tech Computer Science degree to bear on modern-day ministry opportunities and integrating new technologies into congregational life to help spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. Pastor Jannett is the husband of Kelly Jannett, and they are parents to three wonderful children: Dylan, AJ, and Shea. With a deep passion to help make disciples of Jesus Christ, Pastor Jannett looks forward to meeting you and serving alongside you in the mutual ministry to come.
