Impact the Next Generation of Scientists...Sign up to be an NC DNA Day Ambassador!

April 15, 2011

Sign up ncdnaday.com

• Outreach: Visit a North Carolina high school science classroom on (or around) April 15, 2011.

• TeachingExperience: Present an engaging lesson related to genetics and genomics.*

• Impact: Share information about your own research and what it’s like to be a scientist. Inspire a future scientist!

• FUN!Seriously.

DNA Day is a wonderful opportunity to demystify the image of a scientist. We can show students that we are not crazy people walking around with wild hair and beakers containing colored bubbling liquid that is about to explode, but that we are people who truly want to make a difference to help society, and hopefully, encourage some of them to join the cause. I am honored to be a part of DNA Day.”

- Michael Johnson, UNC-Chapel Hill Graduate Student

Pioneering Postdoc ProgramsYour postdoctoral training period is the ideal time to hone your skills and get needed experience that will make you the perfect candidate for the career of your choice.

There are many unique postdoc programs that train fellows in a variety of indemand skills and these training opportunities are often shorter and more structured than the traditional academic postdoc. They teach a specific skill set and can be a fast track to a “real job” afterwards. Each month in the TIBBS Times we’ll highlight a different fellowship opportunity.

AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowships

The Science & Technology Policy Fellowships are opportunities for professional development and public service. They are operated by AAAS as part of its mandate to “advance science and serve society.” The aim is to foster scientifically informed, evidence-based policy and practice by engaging scientists and engineers from a broad range of disciplines, backgrounds and career stages to directly contribute their knowledge and analytical skills to the federal government; to learn first-hand about poli-cymaking and implementation at the federal level; and to build leadership for a strong S&T enterprise that benefits all people.

Salaries start at $74,000
