A couple of major achievements are in school culture, athletics and academics. First, I would like to thank Mr. Parker, our staff and students for their excellent work on our Remembrance Day Ceremony. It was very well done and our students, both ATMS and ATSS, were very respectful during this time and I was proud of all. Second, our Jr. boys, Gr. 8 & 9 soccer team, made up of boys from both ATMS and ATSS, has just won the Fraser Valley Championship in Surrey this past week defeating the top school in Surrey, Enver Creek Secondary, by a score of 3-0. We have won our first athletic pennant for a championship and are very proud of Mr. Laity and our boys. As well on the academic side our English classes under the direction of Mrs. Van Dalfsen have won second prize again this year by the Poetry Institute of Canada in their Young Writer’s Canadian National Short Story Contest. A special recognition goes to Brittany Collet a Gr. 12 student who won first prize overall with her story, “Once Upon a Dragon”. We are all very proud. We do have parent-teacher conference evening coming up next week from 5:30 to 8 pm in the large gymnasium. I would like to encourage as many of you as possible to come and talk to your son or daughter’s teachers. It is also hard to believe that we have our Christmas season soon upon us with the upcoming Formal Christmas Dinner and Dance. Stay tuned for more details. Mr. Ken Laity – For setting up the entire floor space Ms. Royer & Art Students - they made us the awesome banner and supplied general art expertise. ATSS HAS PUBLISHED SHORT STORY WRITERS!!! For the second year in a row Abbotsford Traditional Secondary School has been

recognized by the Poetry Institute of Canada in their Young Writer’s Canadian National Short Story Contest. Thousands of short stories are submitted nation wide to this contest and two anthologies are published representing the western and eastern regions of Canada. The result of their hard work earned the school Second Place for the overall quality of short stories submitted.

Individual students at Abbotsford Traditional Secondary School were also recognized for their achievement. Brittany Collect, a grade 12 student, placed first overall in the contest and has her story “Once Upon a Dragon” featured in the Dawning Hope Anthology. Twelve other students were also recognized with ‘Awards of Excellence’. Many students at Abbotsford Traditional Secondary School are now published authors and have an audience for their writing skills. ATSS MUSICAL THEATRE Presents its 5th. Annual Musical Theatre production

“Once Upon A Pantomime” (or “Happily Ever After...????? ” )

January, 7, 8 & 9, 2009

Abbotsford Traditional Secondary School Musical Theatre is presenting a two-hour traditional English-styled pantomime entitled “Once Upon A Pantomime” or “Happily Ever After ...????? ” - a magical comedy adventure story in words and music for children 8-108! Audience participation is the order of the day with this hilarious Musical that will give the audience a real treat! Numerous songs, lots of characters, and plenty of booing, hissing and 'behind you!' ensure that this will be one school production that is a guaranteed hit. Are you looking for something completely different from the “ordinary” children’s theatre? Can't decide between Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Aladdin? Why not see all of them, and more? “Once Upon A Pantomime” or “Happily Ever After ... ????? ” may be just what you're looking for. This exciting new traditional styled musical “panto”, with its humour, variety and twisting storyline is ideal for children’s theatre. The show is a colourful journey through Story land, meeting a host of traditional Storyland characters such as Aladdin, Cinderella, the Seven Dwarfs, Jack (from the Beanstalk) , as well as the “Baddies”, who prompt all the usual booing and hissing! In fact, most of your favourite pantomime characters appear in this brand new wild and whacky musical that is fun to do, and great fun to watch . The story is this: everything in Storyland is chaotic! The Good Fairy is in a state, because none of her magic is working. Aided by the incompetent Spotty & Grotty, with their hi-tech' laser weapons, the Wicked Witch has stolen three magic objects: Aladdin's magic lamp, Cinderella's magic slipper, and the goose that lays the golden eggs. Visiting students, Ben and Sarah, battle to thwart the evil Witch's master plan. She is intent upon world Storyland domination, until Ben and Sarah triumphantly return the magic objects to their rightful owners. Two eccentric hosts, Boo & Hiss, narrate the fun, as an array of new and familiar characters pass through Storyland contributing to the pandemonium. The audience is encouraged to “participate” throughout the show. Show Dates at Abbey Arts Centre are January 7, 8, 9, 2009 (10.30 a.m. curtain) - please see below. There are also two evening performances for the general public (January 9 & 10, 2009 at 7.30 p.m.) Admission at the “schools only matinees” is $5 for each ticket (not including transportation) - schools must order a ticket for each and every student/teacher/parent supervisor. An electronic ticket order form is on the ATSS Musical Theatre Website under “Our Next Production” http://sd34.homeip.net/atssmuth/ PERFORMANCE DAY: The format for the day’s entertainment is as follows: 10.30 a.m. Act 1 of “Once Upon A Pantomime” or “Happily Ever After ... ????? ” 11.30 a.m. approx.
