The True Story of Giles Corey

•Giles Corey was born in about 1611 in England•Moved to Salem•Bought a big piece of land in Salem•He was known as someone who lacked consideration for others in the community and also as one who lead a "scandalous life"

• His bad reputation led to him being accused

• Killed another farmer, Jacob Goodale, by beating him

• Testified against his own wife Martha

•On March 19, 1692, Martha was arrested for witchcraft•April 19, 1692, Giles Corey was accused of witchcraft and there was a warrant out for his arrest•Accusations from Abigail Hobbs who during her own confession to witchcraft named Giles and Martha Corey as fellow witches, and one from Ezekiel Cheever and John Putnam, Jr., who filed an accusation on behalf of Ann Putnam, Marcy Lewis, Abigail Williams, Mary Walcott and Elizabeth Hubbard.

Giles Corey was kept in jail untill September 16, 1692. When he was brought to testify in court. Giles realized that it was impossible to be found not guilty and therefore decided to undergo "what death they would put him to”.
