From the Pastor Some people comment how busy I must be at Christ-mas. Yes, Christmas is busy, especially when one thinks of all the commercial hype and the countdown of shopping days until the holiday. My reply, however, is that Lent and Easter are much busier for us pastors. Besides Easter Sun-

day, we have midweek Lenten services and Holy Week services. Un-churched people respond with blank expressions. This is the perfect teaching opportunity for me.

We have completed our journey through Lent and unfurled the “Alleluia” banner the children buried on Transfiguration Sunday, Febru-ary 7. We will move through seven Sundays of Easter to the Festival of Pentecost on the 50th day after the Resurrection.

We see signs of resurrection all around us—flowering plants, greening trees, beautiful spring weather. We are reminded that through Holy Baptism we are Easter people. We are people who not only bene-fit from Jesus’ death on the cross to take away our sins, but we also share in the resurrection to eternal life when we die. Easter is about good news…actually, the best news and so we proclaim:

Alleluia! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

    Thank You!

To all those who helped plan, who participated in the leadership, and those who attended our Len-ten, Holy Week, and Easter services: THANK YOU!!!!!!

Stewardship Corner This month we learn about the stewardship

(caretaking) of relationships. Our relationships with others are a gift from God and a measure of our stewardship for God. We do this stewardship at home by providing Christian education for our children while living and growing together as a family. At work we show our fellow workers the example of Christian behavior and supporting caring. In church we participate with others in worship, mission teams, projects, and forming friendships.

    Lutheran Lakeside Camp Day

Staff from Lutheran Lakeside Camp will be at Augustana on Sunday, April 17th. They will meet with the Sunday school kids and parents during education time. Even though I plan to be on sab-batical this summer, I will come to God’s Little Sprouts on July 11. Five of our little ones, parents, and Pastor Del had great fun last year. Lakeside staff will also talk about the other of-ferings like robotics camp, reading camp, etc. There will probably be a fun activity which could involve running, yelling, screaming…having fun! There will also be a temple talk during the 10:15 service and we will receive a special offer-ing for Lakeside.

Piece Corps The Piece Corps (Quilters) of Augustana Lu-theran Church have made over 30 quilts since the beginning of the year. We average around 100 each year. The Piece Corps meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM in either the Augsburg Room or Refor-mation Hall. We welcome new members to join us in this ministry. You don’t have to sew at a ma-chine You can design, cut squares, or pin the three parts of our quilts together. Donations of fab-rics and sheets are always appreciated. Most of our quilts last year were donated to the Council on Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence and Lutheran World Relief. Members of the Piece Corps are Paul-ine Beales, Lois Han-sen, Elaine Kreutzian, Rosalie Richardson, Janice Mohan, Gloria Smith , Marge Swan-son, and Jean Turner.

Social Concerns April Benevolence will again be a Food Drive

for food pantries at First Lutheran and St. Thomas Episcopal churches. “God loves a cheerful giver”. In addition to food items, the food pantries have re-quested toothpaste, laundry detergent, Kleenex, and toilet paper. We will again offer a cash opportunity of giving this year. In lieu of food items, money may be donated, which will be divided between the food pantries of St. Thomas and First Lutheran. They can then use the money to purchase food from the Food Bank at 18 cents per pound. Money can be placed in a pew en-velope marked Food Drive or writing a check and not-ing Food Drive on the memo line. Thanks for your generosity.
