Bam approaches and once again we hold pre-event meetings as an excuse to gather and consume great quantities of food and drink.We recently had discussions at one of those above mentioned meetings concerning planning and organization improvements.We decided that any idea that helps to cut down our workload is a good idea indeed!This year our parking situation will be handled by the Amazons. They will be able to convince folks that they really need to move their vehicle to the parking areasBefore the site gets too congested. We will also have vehicle window tags for parking.
We have been granted the opportunity to host this year’s Middle Eastern Dance Championship during BAM, as always, it should be spectacular!A Chili-Bard-Off will take place under the BFT on Friday evening. There will be Bards hawking their groups chili for the populace to sample and judge.The winner will be chosen by popular vote. A stupendous prize might be given to the winner. Anything goes.
Volunteers are always welcome to sign up and sit a Gate shift.
Classes will be available for those who wish to sharpen their skills in some specific field, and A&S displays will be places for everyone’s viewing pleasure and vote.
The fight scenarios are so awesome one will have to visit the BAM event website at Bordermarch.org to understand the full depth and beauty of them.
There will be the traditional Royal Procession on horseback from the Equestrian campsite to the castle on Saturday morning. Once morning court is over the days fighting will begin.

Delicious Fresh Pears Picked these PEARS on the way home from Pennsic Aug 2013 from a tree in Nashville (where Mistress Nerak & Sir Starhelm’s yard had been, and now Bevin, Q, and Arthur live there).
Allowed pears to ripen several days in my kitchen, peeled them, cored them, slced them, and simmered in in a pot with some ginger root, some stevia -rather than sugar, a scratch of lemon zest, and a drip-ple of apple juice... whole house smelled soooooooooooooo good while they were cooking.

Welsh Lamb Stew Personal notes from Tessa:While this particular stew was not part of our Bordermarch Autumn Melees -BAM- November 2012 camp cooking, due to the theme, “War of the Rams #1,” it “might have been.” It yet “could be prepared” to serve at BAM War of the Rams #2 coming up in Nov 2013, with no offense to anyone who loves soft fluffy little lambs, i.e. Lady Karin...
Over decades, our friend Lord Rhys has enjoyed various travels and very interest-ing book gathering. He had been kind enough to let me borrow some of his Welsh cookbooks. A particular one, Traditional Welsh Fare / Bwyd Traddodiadol o Gymru, teaches how to prepare “Stiw Mynwy” (Monmouth Stew)-lamb, leeks, and barley, edit-ed here for contemporary kitchens into modern English (and with my redaction ideas.) The cook needs:Pan for fryingCasserole dish for baking in ovenSmall pot for boiling root vegetablesThe recipe suggests an alternative If desired: the lamb stew could be cooked gently, cov-ered, on top of the stove rather than in oven. Gather the Ingredients:1 1/2 lb. stewing lamb meat, cubed; or 8 lamb chops, trimmed1 oz. seasoned flour1 oz. butter or oil4 to 5 leeks, washed, trimmed ((sliced into one inch rings))2 oz. pearl barley4 sprigs of parsley ((with 1 sprig of thyme and 1 bay leaf tied together by a piece of string))salt and black pepper 1/4 pint lamb stock6 to 8 carrots ((or parsnips roots)) to boil in a separate pot Preparation:Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Roll the lamb meat in the seasoned flour to coat all over; heat the butter or oil, and lightly fry lamb on all sides for 1 minute.To the lamb meat , add leeks, and fry for one more minute, then transfer into a casserole dish. Add the pearl barley, herbs, and seasoning, then pour the stock over.Cover with lid, bring casserole to boil, cooking in oven for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Remove the herbs before serving, and serve with boiled carrots or parsnip roots. ((Garnish with a small dollop of sour cream or plain yogurt.)) Serves 4.

A story was told by way of illustrations.... So I will endeavor to translate them as best I can:
A group of our most elite Bordermarchers were out gathering food for the up coming war. Being as they were hunting they did not bring along their brass hats for fear of scaring off their prey. As luck would have it, they did have a scribe who was ready to compose this portrait when they spied this deer and moose. It can only be assumed that Our Excellencies
had HL Isabella, Sir Simon and Mistress Tessa carrying the bounty of their successful hunt, when a boa constrictor attacked our beloved Baron Santiago. (yes, you are supposed to gasp here)
After quite a struggle and taking a few bites, the boa decided
that His Excellency was more then a mouth/belly full. The boa dropped to the ground and turning it’s attention to Her Excellency Elisa-beth who dispatched the snake while His Ex-cellency was shrugging the whole ordeal off.
And Nomis was nowhere to be found...
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
