Parents/Carers,
Students and staff have been very busy over the past two weeks with lots of exciting activity taking place across our school. Last Friday
we had our Whole School Assembly where our School and House Captains were announced and awarded their certificate and badges.
We had some very excited and happy students and parents. Please note further in the newsletter their names and photos. I
congratulate all our leaders for 2019 and I look forward for them to show their strength in leadership as it grows through all the great
experiences they have this year.
Student Voice Positive Choice (SVPC) is a great initiative that we as Palmerston Schools have developed over a period of 12 months.
Our school captains and vice captains attended a half day workshop earlier this week with Ms Beynon to hear the history of SVPC and
brainstorm ideas on how we can really promote this across our schools and out into the community.
All our student leaders will be participating in a full day Student Leadership Workshop using the Michael Grose Student Leadership
Program with Ms Beynon next week. This will round off the input around Leadership at the school level and this will support them to
take our message out into the community through the Palmerston Markets, working across schools and promotional videos for our
Facebook page. The House Captains will also have their day in the limelight when they work towards preparing for our School Sports
Carnival which is the end of Term 2.
On Tuesday this week we held our very first ‘Day of Play’ across our school. The teachers set up 2 activities each which allowed
students to select what they wanted to do and when. Then when recess time arrived everyone went back inside to eat and rest then
back outside again when recess was over. This continued until lunchtime when the students went back inside for eating and resting.
Since we had such a great but exhausting day we did not continue right through until 2pm, instead we finished at 1.10pm. I believe it
was well worth it and students were engaged in some amazing problem-solving, construction, games, negotiating and general hands
on fun. This is all leading up to the Global Day of Play in 2020. Check out the Rosebery Primary School official Facebook page for some
excitement from the day.
As many of you would be aware there has been a lot of talk in the media about the hoax Momo video which has allegedly been
popping onto You Tube Kids video streams unexpectedly. This has not proven to be accurate but we all need to be vigilant around this
type of potential threat to children who are accessing online material. As parents this is your responsibility to monitor and manage at
home and we undertake Cyber Safety lessons at school. In the past the school based constables have conducted cyber safety lessons
with our classes. We are still in the planning stages with our school based constables to conduct more of these focused lessons in the
coming months. If we all work together to ensure children are closely monitored when using online resources that will arm our
students with the skills and strategies they need if something untoward does ever present itself.
Our Rosebery Dance Troupe along with a number of staff have headed off on their first Dance camp to Batchelor for 2019. They are all
very excited and we all look forward to seeing the fruits of their labour in coming months. This is a key learning few days for our
students as well as developing a sense of dedication and skill development with loads of wellbeing activities thrown in as well.
Enjoy the weekend with your family.

YEAR 3 SINCLAIR
To start off the year, Grade 3 Sinclair have been
studying living and non-living things. We decided we
would love to watch some chickens hatch out of their
eggs.
As scientists we have; monitored the eggs during the
incubation stage, had the opportunity to view the egg
sack using the candling method and experience live
chickens hatching.
Once the chickens had hatched we continued to
observe and monitor them by measuring their growth
and weight. We have been amazed at how quickly the
chickens have grown with Black Thunder now weighing
110g he has gained 60g in one week.
