The Turtle Times Parents/Carers, Whilst visiting classes this week I have seen quite a number of green stickers on students who have reached their Learning Goals. When I have asked them how they have met their goals they happily tell me with excitement and enthusiasm. Please do the same if your child comes home with one of these stickers on their shirts as it means time to celebrate. I have also noticed how much some children have grown all of a sudden, as they do. In saying this, can you please ensure you have packed a healthy recess and lunch and they have a water bottle to support these growth spirts, keep them hydrated and maintain their energy levels for purposes of focussed learning when in class. As you may have noticed we have our school values now displayed on the wall at the top of the undercover Assembly area. These 5 values panels have designs by our students on them which were created into the panels by a graphic design company. These designs came about from our Values competition held earlier in the year. Because we had so many great designs we took bits and pieces from 29 different posters and created by the students and that is what we now see displayed for all to view. The student’s names who contributed to these panels are currently being placed onto a plaque which will be attached near the panel so they are all recognised for their work. Their names went into a draw and the winner of the mini iPad was drawn last assembly. The proud winner was Lily Lorio from Year 6 but it could easily have been any one of the 29 names. Congratulations to all our students who contributed to our Values panels – well done. We are able to offer the Triple P Positive Parenting Program again this term. It is a great program for parents who want some support around managing your children’s behaviour in a positive and proactive manner. We have partnered once again with Catholic Care NT and the four week course will begin on Thursday November 10 th at 5.30 – 6.30pm held in our new preschool room. You do need to register at Reception or email [email protected] In the next few weeks staff will be producing proposed class lists for 2016. There are a number of factors taken into account when this happens even prior to the teachers being allocated to classes. Some factors are our student numbers for each class, they social groupings, female vs males, special learning needs and so on. The final decision is made based on all of these factors and these lists along with the allocated teachers for 2016 will be made available on the window near the student entrance to Reception in the last week of this term. Please remember we have asked for you to let us know your plans if you are not returning to Rosebery Primary School in 2016 as this helps our planning. Student Led Conferences are to be held next week so I hope to see all parents around throughout the week where your child can share their learning with you. Have a great weekend. Parents/Carers, Whilst visiting classes this week I have seen quite a number of green stickers on students who have reached their Learning Goals. When I have asked them how they have met their goals they happily tell me with excitement and enthusiasm. Please do the same if your child comes home with one of these stickers on their shirts as it means time to celebrate. In saying this, can you please ensure you have packed a healthy recess and lunch and they have a water bottle to support these growth spirts, keep them hydrated and maintain their energy levels for purposes of focussed learning when in class.

As you may have noticed we have our school values now displayed on the wall at the top of the undercover Assembly

area. These 5 values panels have designs by our students on them which were created into the panels by a

graphic design company. These designs came about from our Values competition held earlier in the year.

Because we had so many great designs we took bits and pieces from 29 different posters and created by the students

and that is what we now see displayed for all to view.

ANIMALS IN SCHOOL

Please remember not to bring the dog along when you walk to school in the morning. While we fully understand that this might seem like a wonderful activity and a great way to ensure your pet is getting some exercise, we

do have some students who are very anxious about dogs. We also have a handful whose bravery gets the better of them and they may approach a dog, either tied up or on a lead, in an inappropriate way. If they were to make a mistake, we don’t want anyone to have to deal with a nasty bite. Thanks so much for helping us keep our school as a safe environment for all.

MOZZIE REPELANT

As we have lots of mozzies around at the moment , please apply mozzie cream/spray to your child/ren before arriving at school.

In order to assist students in our school with severe nut allergies we are asking all of our parents to help us promote a nut free environment. Please assist us in keeping your children safe.

We are coming to end of term – very quickly. As an update from School Council you may have noticed black counters on Forrest Parade – Palmerston City Council has been monitoring the flow of traffic on Forrest Parade which was initiated from communication from Council– Council is waiting on the outcome of this fact find and Council will advise the School Community once this information is to hand. RPS Council believes there will be another traffic review with a Palmerston City Council staff member recording traffic at busy school times. Council is not aware when this review will be completed.

On a sad note, Simon Hales has resigned from RPS School Council due to work commitments and his position is now vacant. If you are interested in volunteering

your time to be a member on School Council please email your expression of interest along with a brief description of any previous experience on School Councils and your reason for becoming a member of School Council to [email protected] Our current membership is as follows:- Chair – Leonie Hastie-Gordge Secretary – Kylie Gibbons Treasurer – Marnie Richards Principal – Gail Smith Teachers – Rachel Turton, Karen Jeffrey, Michelle Sheahan, Carly Moir, Danielle Banicek Parent Members – Sue Lowry, Lisa Sharpe, Jody Hayes, Jane Bland, Alicia Ballantyne, Fiona Woolley, Ella Maguire Please feel free to email any concerns or issues you may have to our email address [email protected] so that your concerns can be communicated formally to Council. If Council does not know your concerns then a resolution is so much further away!

Transition Lockwood have been keen to learn after our week holiday refreshed us! Every Tuesday after recess Mrs Turton works with us for library and special topics. We have started learning about how our bodies tell us when we don't feel safe through our body clues. We completed a Recognise My Body Clues Activity. With the Day for Daniel coming up on Friday 30

th October it is giving us the chance to teach, learn and

reflect on how our body reacts if we find ourselves scared or unsure. This activity helped the children

recognise these feelings and how our bodies can react. We did some brain storming on what our bodies

might do. We identified our body shows the following reactions to tell us it is maybe time to react:

We watched an information video from the Morcombe Foundation and Day for Daniel to help us identify the clues our bodies give us when we are in an unsafe situation. Next we will make our safety network. These are people we trust who can help us if we need it and who we can report to if something has happened.
