Pastor’s Corner

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We pray in a special way for our parishioner, Anastasia (Stasia) Pierce, who is heading off to discern a calling to religious life with the Little Sisters of the Poor. Originally, the Congregation planned for her internship to be in Delaware; however, this has changed to their house in Mobile, Alabama. I’m certain she’d love to hear from you. Drop her a note and let her know you are praying for her. If all goes well, Stasia will enter as a postulant for the Congregation in the fall of 2021. Her address is: Stasia Pierce, Sacred Heart Residence, 1655 McGill Avenue, Mobile, Alabama, 36604. The Little Sisters of the Poor are a truly remarkable international congregation of women religious serving the elderly poor in over thirty countries around the world. May God bless their important work!

Everyone has been so patient and understanding concerning the precautions we have been taking to prevent spread of the coronavirus. Thank you! We have a wonderful team of staff and volunteers who help us sanitize the church after each Mass, who welcome people and distribute masks to those who may have forgotten theirs, and who work the video for our beloved parishioners at home. Know that we truly are doing everything we can to keep you safe.

A reminder about the reception of Holy Communion: The Bishop strongly encourages the reception of Communion in the hand. However, for those who plan to receive in the traditional way on the tongue, I have not forbidden it; but please wait until the end of the distribution and receive last from a priest or deacon. Please note that lay people distributing Communion (extraordinary ministers) will not distribute on the tongue. Just make your way to a priest or deacon.

Our parish Finance Committee recently met to go over the recent quarter, the end of the fiscal year, the budget for next year, and some final adjustments to the annual report, which you will have very soon. The committee members and I are extremely humbled by your continued support through this exceptionally difficult time. I should never be surprised by the generosity of the parishioners of St. Mary’s in every aspect of parish life! One of the things that helped us weather the storm was the great number of people using online giving. Online giving has the benefit of helping predict parish revenue, lower administrative costs, potential tax savings for parishioners 72 and older, and more. It’s easy to sign up at our parish webpage: stmarys-aiken.org.

Finally, our Gospel this Sunday turns our attention to Jesus’ gift of the papacy, which unites over 1.2 billion Catholics in one, divine faith. “You are Peter (the name literally means “Rock”), and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it” (Matt 16:18). Let us remain strong in one faith Jesus has established.

Father Wilson

Padre Wilson

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
