Dredging is becoming a crucial activity for thedevelopment of our society.

Some applications include:

• Maintain efficient harbor networks

• Restore a dam’s capacity

• Open safe and efficient water-ways

However, new challenges demand not onlyefficient dredging solutions but solutions that alsoassure environmental protection.

Dredging projects cause a high and complexenvironmental impact.

Sediments under water can be pollutedby different materials:• Metals• Hydrocarbons

Therefore, if the sediments are re-suspendedwithout any type of control we put in danger thesurrounding flora and fauna.

• Bacteria• Chemical substances

Our advanced dredging systems achieve a highsolid concentration while maintaining low turbiditylevels during dredging operations

For more than 25 years we have been focused onthe manufacture of SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS withagitator blades, taking care of every possible detailin the functioning of these machines.

With our pumps it’s possible to handle heavymixtures, increasing the dredging efficiency andminimizing operation costs.

WHY SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS?

EfficiencyThe presence of a double blade agitator directly incontact with the material enables DRAGFLOWpumps to create around the suction really highconcentrated mixture containing up to 70% byweight and 50% by volume solid concentration.

Higher solid concentrations means using theenergy to move solids instead of water.

This translates into:

• Smaller Diesel engines • Smaller discharge pipes • Lower environmental impact

• Reduced operating costs • Smaller machines • Higher solid production

Zone of low

pressure

Agitator

Mixture “cloud”

around the suction

Zone of high

pressure

How it works:

1) The AGITATOR not only preventssolids from blocking the pump inletby mixing them with the liquid, butwith its rotation with pump shaft itcreates a downward flow thatgenerates a HIGH PRESSURE AREAin front of the pump that put thesettled material in suspension thuscreating a cloud of slurry around thepump suction.

2) Above the agitator, inside thestrainer, a LOW PRESSURE AREA iscreated. This together with theaction of the impeller allows topump a high concentration of solids.

3) The SIDE CUTTERS run at low rpmand at every rotation they bringadditional material to the suction.

Versatility

Due to the own weight of the pump, it can belowered into the water simply using a hoist with asteel cable.

This together with the pressure compensator kitallows Dragflow pumps with no limitations onworking depth.

At Dragflow we also introduced an innovative double cutting system in which cutter heads turn inopposite directions cancelling the torsion as the dredging unit is balanced even if is suspendedfrom a single cable.

Anti-Turbidity Bell

A few consequences of turbidity when dredging atdams could be:• Damage to Hydroelectric turbines due to fine

solids in suspension• Contamination of potable water sources

Dragflow’s anti turbidity bell limits the turbidity deriving fromthe dredging process to a circumscribed area.

Therefore, the disturbance of the aquatic environment is keptat an absolute minimum.

Pump and Cutters

Dragflow has developed a line of hydraulic andelectric pumps for high depth applications.

These pumps are equipped with a pressurecompensation system based on a hydraulicaccumulator that equals the pressure inside theseal chamber to the high external waterpressure.

A second hydraulic system mounted on the pump and cutter motors prevents abrupt interruptions of oilflow, protecting the motors and internal components.

High Depth Jet-Ring System

For additional cutting power, Dragflow pumpscan be equipped with a compensated highpressure water Jet-Ring system.

The system is composed by two main elements:

• Jet-Ring Frame with nozzles for high pressurewater jets around the pump suction

• Compensated high head pump connectedwith a special frame to the dredging unit

Umbilical Lines

When working with several long oil hoses, Umbilicalsystem are ideal to combine environmental safety andusability. It consists of a set of oil twisted around a corenon stretchable rope, which absorbs all the strains andshocks, and is covered by a protective layer.

Hydraulic reel controlled from the power pack andequipped with automatic brake for descendingand recovery for ascending operations. Rotatingjunctions and base frame for trouble free recoveryof the umbilical line.
