Under the direction of Associate Director of Bands Dr Scott A Jones the Ohio State Symphonic Band has earned an enviable reputation through performances for the College Band Directors National Association the Ohio Music Education Association the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic the Ohio State Contemporary Music Festival on tour and through its recordings The Symphonic Band is comprised of approximately 65 instrumentalists most of whom are undergraduate and graduate music majors A registered Student Organization at Ohio State the ensemble is led by a Student Board elected from the membership of the ensemble Membership is open through auditions to all Ohio State University students Symphonic Band performs a minimum of four campus concerts each year as well as serving the campus community at the annual Autumn Commencement Exercises Since 1990 Symphonic Band has premiered more than 20 new compositions for concert band

Providing a musical backdrop for many of the nationrsquos most notable events The US Army Concert Band has a worldwide reputation for extraordinary musicianship In an effort to promote international goodwill the 65-piece traditional concert band has performed joint concerts with the Soviet Army the Russian Navy and the Ukrainian Navy bands and has appeared in military tattoos in Scotland Sweden Holland Norway Australia and Japan The Concert Bandrsquos 2011 and 2012 goodwill exchange concert tours with the Military Band of the Peoples Liberation Army of China entitled Friendship and Cooperation Through Music is indicative of the importance these musical ambassadors play in matters of international diplomacy and outreach The musicians in this elite ensemble have been trained at some of the most prestigious music conservatories and universities in the country Displaying their versatility Concert Band members perform a variety of styles ranging from classical to popular
