In 2002, volunteers from The United States Army Band

“Pershing’s Own” traveled with the Sergeant Major of the Army’s

“Hope and Freedom Tour” to entertain deployed troops throughout South-west Asia. These musicians were the first of “Pershing’s Own” to go into a theater of

foreign combat operations since World War II. During this tour,

the musicians performed an up-to-date repertoire of

rock, pop, country, R&B, and

signature patriotic classics that really “hit home” with the deployed troops. This boots-

on-the-ground mission has become an annual event, and has inspired the look and sound that is now The U.S. Army Band Down-

range. The talented vocalists and world-class instrumental-

ists of Downrange are setting the popular-music entertainment standard for The U.S. Army Band and the United States Army.
