THE USE OF MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN MY DOCUMENTARY

MEDIA TECHNOLOGY IN CONSTRUCTIONShooting in a real-life, crowded location such as the ‘Shaheedi Bazaar’ was a huge challenge and required a professional camera. We used a Canon Mark II with a 35 mm lens to capture the bazaar in its breath-taking reality.

We used a monopod to maintain stability throughout the shooting.

We used the daylight to our advantage to capture all the scenes in high- quality brightness

Using camera angles such as over the shoulder

shot and point of view shots in the interviews, we

tried to capture give the audience a feeling as if

they are in direct conversation with the person

being interviewed.

Other shots and camera techniques that we

used include deep focus, aerial shots and pan

movements of the camera to highlight the variety Sania Jamil with her camera

and beauty on display in the Shaheedi Bazaar.

MEDIA TECHNOLOGY IN RESEARCH AND PLANNINGDuring the research phase of the coursework, we used Web 2.0 as a major source of inspiration as we drew ideas and developed a fundamental understanding about the construction process. Looking through an array of documentaries, we were able to decide on our documentary type and pursue it into completion with the help of small inspiration and channels drawn from the Web 2.0.

The planning stage also required the use of media technologies as the organization and arrangement of data was impossible without the Windows softwares like PowerPoint, Word and Excel etc.

The planning stage also includes the surveys we conducted into the audience and documentary types. Using social networking sites such as Facebook to gather feedback through online surveys, media technology was an integral part in the construction of this documentary extract.

MEDIA TECHNOLOGY IN EDITING AND EVALUATIONThe editing stage of the construction process included the use of media technologies such as editing softwares like Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop. Working on the documentary, we became familiar with the complexities and details of these editing softwares and developed the documentary extract alongside these improvements in our skills to create a much mature final outcome than what we began work on in the first place.

In evaluating the media coursework, I used the media technologies such as the Web 2.0 to draw comparisons with professional work and uploaded it on public social platforms such as Vimeo for peer assessment.
