If the state standard is to interpret the meaning of idioms then the instruction will be developed with a focus on how to interpret idioms.

Several examples will be provided to aide with guided practice.

Then students will have the chance to practice.

The students will be assessed.

Students should be exposed to multiple forms of instruction in order to make sense of it.

If the state standard is to interpret the meaning of idioms then there should be a variety of strategies used to teach this.

◦Student could be shown a picture of a commonly used idiom and asked to interpret.

◦Student could draw a picture of literal meaning.

◦Student could read brief history of where the idiom got its meaning.
