From their presentation and website information:
Corazon is a Healdsburg based non-profit dedicated to bridging the racial and economic division
in our community and to supporting multiculturalism by taking collective action surrounding the
social determinants of health. Ariel thanked Rotary for our support of Corazon Healdsburg.
In a collaborative effort with Dr. Lori Rhodes, Corazón Healdsburg launched FirstGen College
Counseling. Beginning in September 2017, thirty low-income college bound Healdsburg High
School students from 9th- 11th grades, who will be first in their family to complete college, will
start this innovative program.
FirstGen prepares historically underserved high school students to gain admission to four-year
colleges in California and out-of-state. Working with Dr. Rhodes and her team, students will
have comprehensive one-on-one support. Collaborating with school counselors and other college
access partners, FirstGen meets individual student needs and concerns as students navigate the
often complicated and overwhelming college application process.
Starting in April 2017, Corazón launched a free program designed to help expecting mothers
prepare for parenthood while also bringing together members of the Healdsburg community. The
program, dubbed “Moms to Moms,” is a partnership between Corazón Healdsburg and Alliance
Medical Center.
The Healdsburg Kinder2College Fund is a college savings initiative launched by members of the
Healdsburg Community in partnership with Corazón Healdsburg, the Healdsburg Unified School
District and the Healdsburg Education Foundation.
President Kate adjourned the meeting promptly at 1:30 pm.
