WEEK 7—PBL FOCUS:

“I follow instructions,

first time every time”

We had some amazing characters visit us for Book Week today.

Thank you Mrs O for being our guest reader.

From the Principal’s Desk …..

Welcome to Week 7

This week has been another action-packed one, as we

move towards the end of term three. Students have been

completing their assessments and will continue to do so

over the coming weeks.

This week we have been celebrating Book Week. The

theme this year was New worlds, Old worlds and Other

worlds. Today, we had our book week parade and school

tours. At 10:30am parents and students toured the school

to see each decorated classroom and display. Teachers

and students went above and beyond with their

classrooms this year and I certainly enjoyed walking

through with students and hearing their expressions of

awe and wonder at the classrooms.

At 10:45am, staff, students and parents all entered the hall

for the opportunity for students (and teachers!) to show

off their attire. Mrs O’Farrell read Winner, Winner Bin

Chicken Dinner, by Kate and Jol Temple to the school. It

was a very entertaining and humorous read! Student

outfits were incredible this year and I would like to thank

the many parents and students who put copious amounts

of time and effort into preparing their costumes.

There were four best dressed categories that were chosen

for students across the school. The winners of each are

below.

Prep-Yr 2. – Cooper Howse (White Rabbit – Alice in

Wonderland)

Yr 3. – 6. – Hunter Pitkin (Hagrid – Harry Potter)

Secondary – James Klass (The boy who wanted to be a

duck—Dr Seuss)

Overall class theme – 5/6 (Harry Potter)

I would like to say a big thank you to the Wandoan Post

Office in their generous donation to the students in the

overall class theme category and we look forward to this

continued support in the years to come. I also need to say

a big thank you to Mrs Bock and the Wandoan SS staff for

their efforts in making the day so successful. A great day

was had by all.

School Dance (This Friday!)

This year, we will be hosting our biannual school dance on

Friday the 27th of August starting at 6:00pm. (BBQ from

5:30pm) The evening will consist of several different

partner dances and students will also perform their dance

showcases as a class. All students across the school have

been working hard in their HPE lessons, practicing their

dances, (which look amazing!) Parents and community

members are invited to attend this event, which in the

past has always been well supported.

The P&C will be providing a bar for parents before and after

the performances. The students are very much looking

forward to showcasing their dances.

Instrumental Music

Next term we will be starting up our 2021 Instrumental

Music program. Mrs Taylor has come back early from

Maternity Leave to ensure that we will be ready to go early

in term four. She spent time with students in each eligible

class this week and it has been exciting to see the student

interest in the program. If your child indicted their interest,

they will have received a note that will go home this week. If

you are interested in your child’s participation please return

the form as soon as possible. I look forward to seeing what

this opportunity will bring for our students.

SET interviews

Next Wednesday, our 9/10 students will be participating in

their SET (Senior Education and Training) interviews and

subject selection morning. Annie Cardillo and Kath Wenban

from Miles SHS will be coming to our school at 9:00am to

engage with parents and students and will deliver their

subject selection information for 2022. Following this,

parents and students will be afforded a morning tea before

going into SET interviews.

This process is designed to provide a clear pathway (learn or

earn) and opportunities for our students in senior or

vocational education. Parents are also invited to attend

these interviews. I look forward to participating in this

process and to see where our students may end up for their

future post schooling in Wandoan.

Parent and Community Code of Conduct

Just recently, the Department of Education has provided

schools and school communities with a document named the

Parent and Community Code of Conduct. This document

outlines how parents and community members are to

engage with schools to support the learning and wellbeing of

each student and to provide a safe work environment for all

parents, staff and students. Please see below for more

information.

Attendance

Our current yearly attendance rate

has continued to increase to 87.5%

and this Term our attendance rate is

at 90.7%. Please ensure that you get

your child to school each day as

research suggests that positive

student outcomes are greatly

increased with high attendance. It will also give students the

chance to attend the Wandoan Superstars trip at the end of

the year. Our attendance goal for the year is 95%.

Kindy Book Walk

Thank you to the Wandoan Kindergarten for inviting the Preppies to visit

their ‘Book Walk’ this week. They had tonnes of fun. Each activity

matched a book. A hot favourite was ‘The Lamington Man’, because they

got to make a lamington and then eat it!!
