Our debut band required plenty of imagery for their online presence, to present their star image. Due to the proliferation of hardware and content we were able to complete a photo shoot with our band.

Research and Planning for the website

The photo shoot involved using a DSLR camera, being a Canon 5D, which produces professional quality images whilst is relatively easy to use, alongside using professional lighting equipment in a studio where we could capture the band based on our online research.

We later utilised Adobe Photoshop to remove any blemishes and ill-colourings by using the healing tool, perfecting the images so that they were appealing to the dominate teenage, female audience. We decided that we wanted the images to be very simplistic due to the minimalistic and casual image that we had created for the band, hence we used minimal editing allowing the young female audience to focus on youthful male faces of the band rather than to be distracted by unnecessary details and gimmicks.

Though with hindsight, we could have utilised Photoshop more to add the band name imagery, to even further emphasise the bands ‘brand’.

PRODUCTION & POST-PRODUCTIONAfter researching online, the various website platforms to create our website we came to the conclusion that Wix would be the most successful platform. Various other websites involved a cost or had poor reviews. Wix was free and easy enough for any of us to use and had a 5 star rating.

Wix provided various templates which were appropriate for our bands profile.

‘EPK BAND’ was the most appropriate template due to the minimalistic theme, a characteristic that we have tried to convey throughout the process. Moreover the bold lines and the limited colour palette reinforced the boldness of the ‘indie-rock’ genre, following our earlier online research which utilised Prezi, Google and Youtube. The template’s width also gave us the option to showcase the album artwork and the photographs that we took, putting on a large emphasis on the artistic element of the bands ethos, separating the band from a more stereotypical pop image.

Wix also enabled us to add several buttons such as "Download on YouTube”, "Location” and "Info” for easy navigation throughout the website adhering the typical conventions of an artists website. We also added social media buttons, endorsing fans further into the bands ‘brand’ through social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
