Key “Windows 8” Apps• Mail App

– Supports IMAP4, Hotmail, Outlook.com, Gmail, …– But … Doesn’t support POP3 (major downer)– May have to use a “classic” desktop e- mail program;

Windows Live Mail 2011 will install and run• Calendar App

– Insists you to sign in to your Microsoft Account• Photo Viewer App

– Insists you to sign in to your Microsoft Account– Accesses web photo accounts (Facebook, …)– No editing features – does slide shows

• Music App– Music Player– Interface to the Xbox music store

User Options

• Click on Users– Type of Account– Password

(Alt-F4)– Or left click and

drag from the top to the bottom

Closing An App• Select any tile in the second

column • Close the App by dragging from

top of the screen to the bottom

• Open the App again– Simultaneously, Hold down the

"Alt" key + tap the "F4" key

Adding An App• Open the App store

– Type non- (Tap Enter)– Double Click on

– Close the App (Alt-F4)• Or left click and drag from the top to the bottom

• Open Settings (WIN+I)• Select “Add an Account”• Observe Limited Selection• Close App (ALT+F4)

Unpin/Uninstall an App• From Your Start Screen

– Right Click on Your PEOPLE App• Select Unpin from Start• Does not uninstall

– simply removes from Start Screen

• Observe that Your PEOPLE App is gone

– You could have also selected• Uninstall

– Which would have removed it from the computer

Internet Explorer App• To get to Tabs & Address Bar - Right Click

– New Tab

– Refresh– Pin to Start/Add to Favorites– Find on Page

Working with the Desktop• Click on Desktop Icon or Windows-D

– If Desktop is the 1st Tile in the 1st column • You can simply tap Enter

• Use just like Windows 7 except no Start button on task bar

• You can add programs to restore the start menu or add a sidebar with gadget
