THE WORKPAPERS

~Matthew, Chapter President

“If you have ten thousand regulations you destroy

all respect for the law.” ― Winston S. Churchill

Whether it is banking, oil and gas, or accounting, we all deal with compliance from different regulatory

bodies. Evaluating the spectrum of laws from differ-ent agencies can be difficult when they are as clear as mud and contra-dict each other. Due to our independence requirements, compliance is something that can be easily overlooked by auditors, especially when it’s a compliance department that is held responsible.

Placing the responsibility for compliance on one department is not al-ways the best approach. In reality, compliance is everyone’s responsibil-ity and should be engrained in the organizational culture, from C-Suite down. Since Auditors are already ambassadors for risk and control, why not throw compliance into the mix? We have the unique opportunity to improve the compliance culture within our companies. We can work closely with the compliance department to eliminate duplicate efforts, using common terminology and reporting, sharing technology, and being proactive in reviewing practices and making positive suggestions.

As a member of the Tulsa IIA, you have the opportunity to be involved in our chapter’s compliance. Our chapter Bylaws were recently amended based on recommendations from IIA headquarters. These amendments were approved by our Board of Governors and require a vote of our chapter members to pass. The bylaws are available on the “Members Only” section of our Chapter Website. Our members are invited to vote on the amended Bylaws during the October general meeting. I hope to see you all there!

FROM TULSA INTERNATIONAL

AIRPORT Take interstate 244 West and after

downtown Tulsa follow the signs to-

wards Sand Springs, (64/51 also

known locally as the Keystone Ex-

pressway or the Cimarron Turnpike).

Stay in the right lane on 64/51 and exit

on the Gilcrease Museum Road and

then turn right. At the next traffic light

(Edison) turn right. Travel ½ mile and

turn left on Union Ave. Club entrance

is immediately on right.

FROM RIVERSIDE DRIVE Travel north on Riverside until you

come to Denver Avenue and merge to

the right. Once on Denver, travel ap-

proximately 1.5 miles to Edison and

turn left. Travel approximately 1 mile to

Union (you will pass the golf course on

the right). Turn Right on Union. Club

entrance is immediately on right.

FROM THE BROKEN ARROW

EXPRESSWAY (64/51) Travel Westbound on 64/51. After passing through downtown Tulsa the road curves right heading North. (Make

sure you stay on 64/51) Immediately after the curve start getting in the left lane to exit toward Sand Springs. (This

is kind of a bad spot traffic wise because you have to cross three lanes of traffic fairly quickly). After the Sand

Springs exit get in the right lane and exit on Gilcrease Museum Road and turn right. At the next traffic light

(Edison) turn right Travel ½ mile and turn left on Union Ave. Club entrance is immediately on right.

Changes to the CCSA, CFSA, and CGAP Certifications

On August 3, 2018, Lily Bi, CIA, QIAL, CRMA, IIA Vice President, Global Certifications made an announcement

regarding changes to the CCSA, CFSA, and CGAP certifications.

Following multiple global market studies, input from volunteers and extensive discussions during the 2018 Glob-

al Council, The IIA’s Global Board of Directors has approved two significant changes to The IIA’s suite of global

certifications.

1. To reposition the CGAP and CFSA from certification programs to assessment-based certificate pro-

grams.

2. To realign the CCSA with the CRMA program through an extensive global job analysis study which will

result in a revised CRMA exam syllabus that covers internal controls and risk management.

The above changes will allow The IIA to provide a clearly defined suite of global certifications while focusing on

our core certification - the CIA - and to better support specialty areas such as the public sector and financial ser-

vices industry.

Below are several key decisions related specifically to the CCSA, CFSA, and CGAP programs:

• The CCSA, CFSA, and CGAP will remain valid designations.

• Individuals who hold CCSA, CFSA, and CGAP designations retain “certified” status as long as they re-

port Continuous Professional Education (CPE) annually.

• Individuals who are currently in-process for CCSA, CFSA, and/or CGAP certification can continue fin-

ishing their exam within the remainder of their four-year program window.

• Individuals who possess and active CCSA, CFSA, and/or CGAP certification as of December 31, 2018,

will have the opportunity to sit for a CIA Challenge Exam.

• The last date to accept new applications for the CCSA/CFSA/CGAP programs is December 31, 2018.

A dedicated transition web page has been developed and includes Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and in-

formation related to the changes to the CCSA, CFSA, and CGAP programs, the transition plan, and the CIA

Challenge Exam. Learn more on the Transition Web Page.
