Material Characteristics

TEMPO S-seals are produced of a high quality TPE.

TPE is a thermoplastic elastomer that combines in a successful way the characteristics of vulcanized rubber like heat resistance

and low pressure forming rest with the ease in process of thermoplastic synthetics.

Some characteristics of TPE are:

· Mechanical property within a temperature rage of -40ᄚ C to +150ᄚ C

· Fluid resistance in the chloroprene class for water based liquids, oils and hydrocarbons

· Low pressure and tension deformation rest

· Excellent heat aging resistance at a temperature of 150ᄚ C for up to 2 weeks and 125ᄚ C for longer periods

· Excellent dynamic resistance against fatigue

· High wear resistance

· Excellent resistance against ozone and weathering.

· The combination of these characteristics in one material gives the designers a greater flexibility in the design of their

products.

Mechanical characteristics

· The hardness of TPE makes it possible to design and produce objects that vary from flexible to semi-stiff while the positive

physical characteristics are maintained.

· The specific weight of TPE is favourable compared to vulcanized rubbers (EPDM, poly chloroprene) that have a higher

specific mass. Based on contents units they therefore need a smaller weight of TPE rubbers for specific applications.

· The pull characteristics of TPE vary according to stiffness. The harder types have a higher pull strength than the softer

ones.

· The tear strength of TPE is high. This allows the use in a vast range of applications, where conventional rubbers are used

now.

· The behaviour with tear and pressure of TPE means a big breakthrough in thermoplastic materials. Resistance against

durable tear after being torn 100% is good for all types of TPE rubbers. The resistance against durable pressure after a

constant forming is excellent, especially at high temperature and for longer periods. The low pressure- and tear forming

rest of the softer types allow a wide range of applications where so far only conventional rubbers could be used.

· The fatigue resistance of TPE is exceptional high compared to many thermo hard types of rubber. The softer types of TPE

are, compared to natural rubber specially compounded for this, better resistant against fatigue.

· The brittleness limit of TPE is below -40° C. All harnesses have a good flexibility at low temperature. The softer types

have, off cause, a higher flexibility at a lower temperature.

· The wear resistance of TPE rubber is better than many vulcanized rubber compounds. The wear resistance strongly

depends on the circumstances of use.

Processing characteristics

TEMPO S seals are produce according to the extrusion process. The TEMPO knowhow of this technique allows complying with

all requirements of the seal design. This applies to the lip shaped seals as well as for the thin sided profiles with hollow

chambers.

Fire resistance

A special fire resistant quality complying to Ul-94-V0 is available.

Material details

The choice of TPE as a raw material for weather seals is defined by the required acrylic resistant paints. This applies for both

acrylic dispersion paints as well as acrylic plates. The mechanical behaviour of weather seals, extruded from TPE corresponds

to that of EPDM. The great advantage of TPE compared to EPDM is the fact that TPE seals can be welded.
