CONCEPT THEORY Inside out <-> outside inConcept is to bring the exterior into the building, by using similar zones inside as outside. The terrace stretches out to the waterside where a lower podium would enrich the view and exterior envi-ronment. The red squares are sequentially running trought the building of the “Ysbreker”. They show how a possible composition of terraces and stages can be. It will create an interesting intersection on the street by continuing the exterior into the building. The overall idea is to use the history of the place and the name of the bar “Ysbreker” as an physical and visual experience.

FunctionsThe use of the indoor space is based on former functions of the “Ysbreker”, like biljard etc. The design is sup-posed to reflect the history by bringing it in a contemporary way. This contains high-lighting the authentic elements of the place. Therefore I thought of using lights and visu-als/colors.

ONCE UPON A TIME...This is a storyboard about the transformation of the exterior of ‘de Ysbreker’. ‘De Ysbreker’ is a well-known bistro which is daily visited by a wide range of personalities. Therefore the accomodation is already a successful establishment. But there is a huge opportunity to expand it’s perimeters. Below you can see a resurrection of the exterior.

GASTRONOMICALPUBLICSPACECreating a gastronomical outdoor space by introducing indoor ex-perience from the doorstep. Square shaped plateaus are embedded in a random order and on a varied level with each their own ‘per-sonality’. Through this ‘ice breaking’ layout of plateaus ‘de Ysbreker’ reaches out to the waterside. A range of possibilities are given a place to be exposed and enjoyed.

PROGRAMMING THE PLATEAUSThe zoning of the plateaus oers to use each plateau individualy. Depending on the height and size you could imbue the zones with several programs. Programs which are illustrated on this page. These are all options that can be either of high standard gas-tronomical intent or entertainment, and everything in between. Next issue is how to circuit the programs in a way ‘De Ysbreker’ will be a lively establishment.

MATERIAL EQUALS EXPERIENCE

pink carpet (indoors)

sidewalk tiles (between plateaus)

wooden oor (in- & outdoors)

grass (between plateaus) disco oor (indoors)

b&w tiles (in- & outdoors)

The plateaus in this storyboard are all in pink to give you a certain feel of uniformity, until this part the zoning of the plateaus was easy to read. To add the feeling of the aimed experience it is mandatory to show what materials are used to give you and idea of the sense and smell of the place. Therefore there are several distinctive colours and materials used in the design.
