The Zicklin School of Business can trace its roots back nearly 100 years. In 1919, City College established a School of Business

and Civic Administration on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan, offering its first MBA program one year later. This school was renamed in 1953 in honor of alumnus Bernard M. Baruch, noted statesman and financier, who was instrumental in the College’s formation.

In 1968, Baruch became an independent senior col-lege offering the only AACSB accredited business programs within the City University of New York system. It has since grown to become the largest collegiate school of business in the nation. In 1998, the Zicklin School of Business was named in appreciation for a generous endowment from alumnus and financier Lawrence Zicklin ’57.

Life at Zicklin

Our graduates appreciate the extraordinary value their degree offers. In fact, our Full-Time MBA program is ranked top 50 by Forbes for five-year ROI and #1 by U.S. News and World Report in value at graduation.

Designed to recreate the atmosphere of a traditional college campus in an urban setting, Baruch’s innovative, 17-floor William and Anita Newman Vertical Campus serves as the hub of the College.

Zicklin faculty include internationally recognized authorities in business and management fields, noted scholars and authors, sought-after consultants, and master teachers. Many are regularly called upon for expert commentary by well-known media outlets.

Zicklin hosts numerous conferences and seminars each year for students, alumni and the local community focusing on a range of relevant and informative topics. Pictured: The 2013 Annual Financial Reporting Conference.

Zicklin boasts one of the most diverse, multicultural student populations of any school in the country, which reflects the ethnic and cultural complexity of our campus and our increasingly global world.

The recently developed 25th Street Plaza is an open space blocked off from street traffic to enhance the campus experience for our students, faculty and staff, as well as the local community.

The Information and Technology Center, in the William and Anita Newman Library, houses a 400-seat student computing lab, the Subotnick Financial Services Center, a conference center, and several administrative offices of the College.

The Zicklin School is in the heart of the business capital of the world. This dynamic, real world “classroom” adds immeasurably to the value of a Zicklin degree and offers unparalleled internship and career opportunities.

In the fall of 2013, the School will mark the 15th anniversary of the naming of the Baruch School of Business in honor of the Zicklin family. The generous support of Mr. Zicklin and family have helped transform the School into one of the top public schools of business in the nation, housed in a state-of-the-art educational facility in the heart of Manhattan.

Larry Zicklin graduated in 1957 from Baruch College with a BBA and earned an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1959. Currently, Mr. Zicklin is chairman of the Baruch College Fund, where he has also served as president. Professionally, Zicklin was managing principal and chairman of Neuberger Berman, an investment management firm. He began his career in the institutional sales department at Merrill Lynch.

The Zicklins endowed the Zicklin School of Business with a transformative gift in 1997. They have also endowed Baruch College’s Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity. Zicklin is a former president of the UJA Federation of New York. He is a Clinical Professor at the Stern School at New York University and a Senior Fellow at the Wharton School.

“ The invaluable education, unparalleled access and connections I forged at Baruch gave me the opportunity I needed to thrive in my career. I am determined to keep that door of opportunity open for as many students as possible as they flourish at Baruch and beyond.”

New Ph.D. Program The Board of Trustees for the City University of New York approved the establishment of a joint Business Ph.D. program that will now include the Baruch College name, alongside CUNY’s Graduate Center. The approval was given during the Board meeting held on June 24, 2013.

Dr. Mitchel B. Wallerstein, President of Baruch College, says that “the CUNY Board’s approval acknowledges the College’s unique role in teaching, mentoring and supervising business doctoral students since 1970.”

Students in the Program will specialize in one of five business areas: accounting, finance, information systems, marketing, and management. The Ph.D. Program in Business continues the strategic growth of the Zicklin School’s academic offerings, which have been ranked nationally by U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, and Newsweek, among others.

New Faculty The Zicklin School of Business continues its quest for excellence with the addition of 31 new faculty members for the 2013-2014 academic year—the most ever.

They bring with them specializations in a number of relevant areas such as: accounting for income taxes; data analytics and healthcare management; real estate and urban economics; corporate social responsibility and socially responsible investing; whistleblowers in the securities industry; school choice mechanisms, and market design.

In hiring the best and the brightest, the Zicklin School cast its net far and wide…and near. Our new faculty have earned degrees from such prestigious institutions as: Peking University, Humboldt University in Berlin, Duke, University of Strasbourg in France, UC Berkley, Cornell and Columbia University.
