f Dear Parents/Carers We have a very exciting week next week with Easter services and Easter activities throughout the week. However, one of our new events is the Joint Key Stage 2 Art Exhibition, and this year it will happen at Burnsall Village Hall. The Key Stage 2 children from each school have produced some amazing pieces of Art this term, certainly worth the £5 purchase price for family members. Any money raised will go to the child's School Council. Do come along and look at our talented artists. I hear that the Tesco 'token' collection is going very well in Skipton and that at the moment Kettlewell is in the lead. Thank you for all who have added their tokens to our pile. Congratulations are due to Jacob Reeday, Year 6 at Cracoe, who won the County Cross Country event held at Dalby Forest yesterday. Well done Jacob. We break up for the Easter holidays on Thursday next week and the children return on Tuesday 17th April. Have a wonderful Easter and I look forward to seeing the children refreshed and ready to learn. Reminder By the way don’t forget that the clocks go forward an hour this weekend. Dear Parents/Carers

We have a very exciting week next week with Easter services and Easter activities throughout the week.

News from Class 1This week the Year 1 have been retelling the focus story in their words. They have using the different skills we have been learning, such as the use of exclamation marks and synonyms. The children in Reception have been practising writing words using the sounds they have learnt as part of their phonic work. We have also been practising blending, listening carefully to the initial sounds.

In Maths Reception have been learning about ordering objects by length and height. We have ordered children by height and shoes by length. The children were fascinated by the measuring work using a ruler that Year 1 were focusing on. They joined in and measured objects around the room, making sure they started with the 0 on the ruler.

Year 1 have continued their learning about measuring. This week we have focused on using units of measurement. We have used cubes to measure and then moved onto using cms. Again, ensuring they started at 0 on the ruler. We have also been investigating patterns, looking for and

making our own patterns.

In R.E. we have been learning about the Easter story, using a wonderful story bag from Rev’d. Thomas. The children worked in pairs to create a collage of the story, following the story told from the bag.

Year 1 have new spellings to learn this week; please remember to ask them to write each word 3 times. This week’s practise activity has two parts. Ask your child to write a word as many times as they can in 1 minute. Then repeat using each of the other words. The second activity is to play ‘Beat the Teacher’, ask your child to explain how to play the game.

We would like to invite you all to a coffee morning on Wednesday 28th March. We will be having an Easter craft morning from 9.15 to 10.30. Please come along and help your child make a variety of Easter crafts.

Have a great weekend from Mrs Tulley, Mrs Middleton and Mrs Buckley.

News from Class 2This week Class 2 have been exploring fractions with the Year 2 children understanding what a half is and what it is not, to gain a deeper understanding, whilst Years 3 and 4 had a Smartie fraction lesson in order to find out the fractions of colours in their tubes. They also discovered different ways of representing a fraction.

In Literacy, we have been editing and redrafting our diaries, focussing carefully on the success criteria. The children have worked so well on these pieces of work and we have been really proud of their improved editing skills.

In Art, the children started making their African masks using their modelling skills. The designs have been amazing so we are really looking forward to seeing the final products.

Homework for this week - the children need to decide on their favourite book and write down as many reasons as they can think of as to why it is the best so they are ready for the first of our "Battle of the Books" next week.

Have a fantastic weekend together,

Mrs Steeples

News from Class 3This week has been assessment week but we’ve also managed to fit in some learning too. In English we have started planning our Mystery stories by looking at examples and identifying how the author introduces the characters, conveys the mood, sets the scene and uses a ‘hook’ to engage the reader.

In Maths we have been working on using protractors, estimating and finding angles of shapes. We have been doing research on Escher and looked at illusion art. We were inspired!

HOMEWORK Please read at least 5 times in the week and do your Maths Mission.

You also need to learn your words for the Easter service.

We have also set a challenge for Class 2 and 3, to design a gift made from recycled materials. Well done to all those who have completed their designs. Now you need to make it ready for judging on Wednesday 28th March.

Year 6 - SAT Attack homework. If you bring your folder to school, you will be given time to complete it. This will also give you a chance to speak to me if there is anything you need help with.

Have a lovely weekend together,

Mrs Harrison

Monday 26 March: School Easter Service at St Michael’s and All Angels Church, Linton Our Easter Service is being prepared by all the children and is our opportunity to come together and celebrate Easter at Grassington School. So, everyone is invited and it would be lovely if as many of you as possible could walk to Church with us (setting off from school at 1.15pm), or alternatively meet us there for the Service. Parents will be able to take children home afterwards or staff will walk back to school with children where they can be collected at 3.30pm, as usual. The Federation Choir Club will take place as usual after school.

Please return the slip at the end of this letter to confirm the arrangements for your child/children by Friday 16 March at the latest. This is particularly important if you child normally travels home on the school bus.
