Grant Goal
• The purpose of the CAE program is to provide funding for additional tools to address the rates of teen
• pregnancy among adolescent youth who are at greatest risk ( black, latino, foster care youth) of sexually transmitted infections (STI) and
• most likely to bear children out of wedlock.
How will it get done?Grantees under this program will be expected to
develop a• targeted and medically accurate approach to
reducing teen pregnancies through abstinence education.
• focus on the social, psychological, and health gains to be realized by teaching youth decision-making skills
• to delay initiation of sexual activity and engage in healthy relationships.
Positive Youth Development Strategy
• Promoting Healthy Transitions to Adulthood Through Positive Youth Development
• Promoting the behavioral health and social and emotional well-being of vulnerable young people through a strengths-based, positive youth development (PYD) approach.
• Historically, many programs concentrated on a specific problem behavior, like teen sexual activity, and involved narrowly focused interventions and educational activities for that problem.
• Increasing protective factors, however, has highlighted the important roles that multiple aspects of young people's attitudes, behaviors, relationships, and environments have in predicting problem behaviors like early sexual activity.
