Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, People of Our Lady, Mother of the Church,

Last Sunday I must have really been looking for spring for I mistakenly an-nounced the move of clocks to be done on the first weekend of March; however, we give up one hour of night on the second weekend of March!

Anyway, we look for spring and for expanding daylight. Changes in nature en-courage us to make progress in spiritual development. The natural world inspires us to find symbols to express the supernatural world. Jesus is the light of the world. One very significant part of the liturgical celebration on Easter Vigil is the Lucernarium (from Latin: the time when the lamps are lighted). At the beginning

of the liturgy is the blessing of the fire, then, the blessing and the lighting of the Paschal Candle followed by the lighting of candles which all the faithful carry in their hands, and finally, the lighting of the whole church interior. This symbolic way expresses what happens inside of us. Nothing should be left in dark-ness.

Some of you may remember Mass on Saturday (2/17) with an electricity outage and Fr. Britto preaching just by candles. As soon as Fr. Britto finished preaching the entire church was enlightened; enlightened in both meanings: physical and spiritual. There are no coincidences, just God’s incidences.

Some of you remember the days when in the whole Catholic Church around the world, the Mass was cel-ebrated only in the morning hours. That practice was very symbolic. Jesus is the dawn of our new life. Jesus breaks the kingdom of darkness.

Some of you know the examples of oriented churches which were built centuries ago. In the oriented church the main point of interest is toward the east (Latin: oriens). That architectural trend also symbol-ized Jesus as the dawn. We are enlightened by His word and by His resurrection. We open ourselves to the coming of Jesus.

Now is the time, now is the acceptable time, the time of forgiveness, the time of repentance. Even the clock allows us longer sleep, the approaching Paschal Mystery calls us to wake-up!

May God bless you!

Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement

We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

In order to update our records and reduce expenses, if a Parishioner has not used their envelopes since 2015, we are changing their status to inactive in our system. Another way to help reduce expenses is to consider online giving, which allows automatic debit from a credit card or bank with a frequency defined by you. You also can go online and contribute as you like. If you sign-up and wish to stop receiving envelopes please contact the Rectory. Further information regarding WeShare, our online giving system, is listed on the following page, or you can get information in the narthex or by visit-ing our website at ourladymotherchurch.com.
