The City of Albany has many passionate people who love their city and care about the community.

Their friendly smiles and helping hands make Albany a welcoming and wonderful place for everyone.

Community volunteers and organisations work closely with City staff on many events, projects and programs to benefit all residents and visitors.

This calendar highlights some of the partnerships the City has with its community.

Bush rehabilitation, sport and recreational activities, flora and fauna surveys, RSL commemorative services, beach clean-ups and fire fighting are just some of the myriad things we achieve with help from our community.

Everything we do at the City we do for our community, because……This is Your City.

Waste information Please flip to the back of this calendar for important information about what you CAN and CAN’T put in each of your three bins.

Also at the back of this calendar is an index of street names.

Please consult this list now and note which recycling area you are in, and which day of the week your bins are emptied.

You can write this information on the tab at the bottom of the calendar.

You can then easily consult the strip at the left of each month’s dates to know when to put your recycling or green waste bin out.

Hey, I’m Carolyn. Hi, I’m Grant.

I support community groups and event organisers with staging safe and successful events. I help community members, like Grant, to understand and meet legislative requirements, as well as offer advice on funding and event planning. I love that I get to help keep my City vibrant and exciting.

I’m the CEO of the Men’s Resource Centre. I have to say, being a small community group, applying to the City of Albany for event approval can be pretty daunting! Carolyn has made the process easier and we’ve managed to deliver great events because of our relationship with the City.

The City of Albany in partnership with Act Belong Commit presents the Australia Day & Middleton Beach Festival. The month-long Festival will include Australia Day festivities, Colour Dash, volleyball tournaments, beats on the beach and much more. The Australia Day and Middleton Beach Festival is proudly sponsored by Healthway, Lotterywest, Southern Ports Authority, Landcorp, TripleM and Albany Advertiser.

Hello, I’m Julia.

Hiya! I’m Lesley.

I’ve been a YAC member since 2015. I’ve been involved in organising events like the Colour Dash and National Youth Week. It’s really fun getting to hang out with other young people (and Lesley!) to plan exciting events for Albany.

I’m the City of Albany’s Youth Development Officer. I work with Julia and the other members of the Youth Advisory Council to organise opportunities for young people to engage with our community. I love my job as young people are our community’s future. They are part of what makes our City great.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Hi, I’m Lisa xxxxx

G’Day, I’m Peter

I work in Natural Reserves at the City of Albany. I work with people like Lisa to raise awareness about environmental weeds and bushland management within our community. I really enjoy encouraging and educating our community to be proactive when it comes to environmental issues, so Albany continues to be an amazing place to live and visit.

I’ve been a member of the Bushcarers Group for 11 years now. It’s so nice being able to share knowledge with other kindred spirits. I’ve found the City of Albany to be progressive with bushcare, the City is definitely an integral part of our team.

CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK

Each year across Australia, Children’s Book Week brings kids and books together to celebrate Australian Children’s Literature. It’s an exciting time for book character parades and talented librarians creating amazing displays. Check out the Library’s website to see what they have planned.

Hello I’m Sandi.xxxxx

Hello, I’m Paul.

I manage the Albany Public Library. Through our partnership with Wanslea Child Parent Centre, we have been able to ensure the Centre has a variety of quality programs on offer as well as reach a wider demographic of families within our community.

Storytime introduces children to reading in a fun way and I’m glad we can partner with the Library to deliver it. It has been incredibly rewarding and well-received by our community.

Hi, I’m Julie.

During my time as TravelSmart Officer, I’ve worked with local schools to encourage families to be more active and find more sustainable ways to commute such as walking or cycling. The Your Move program

has been embraced at our school. It’s been great working with the TravelSmart Officer; Julie is so enthusiastic and it’s great to feel supported by the City of Albany.

Food for Thought Festival celebrates and showcases local food in a fun and educational way. The festival promotes sustainable, healthy and vibrant food systems on the Amazing South Coast and supports the development and stengthening of fair food networks across the country and internationally.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Hi, I’m Kate

xxxxx

G’Day, I’m Scott

I manage Building, Health and Compliance. I work with people within and outside the City of Albany to ensure our community is safe and healthy.

Funnily enough, despite working at WA Country Health, I also work at the City! The City of Albany has a partnership with WACHS to help deliver healthy initiatives to Albany residents, like Healthy Albany!

Green Fair on the Square promotes all things recycled, upcycled and green. The entire event aims to be waste wise and is a fantastic opportunity for the community to pick up information and tips to be more sustainable.

GREEN FAIR ON THE SQUARE

date: 3 November

location: Town Square

info: www.albany.wa.gov.au/events

Hi, I’m Laura.

xxxxx

Hi, I’m Mary.

I work to ensure Albany is reducing our footprint through the development of the Urban Tree Strategy and Carbon Footprint Reduction Strategy. I also work with organisations like Green Skills to promote sustainable waste free education and maintain our natural reserves.

I manage Green Skills where our aim is to work towards a sustainable future. I really appreciate the positive ‘can do’ attitude I have experienced from the City of Albany staff. Their Green Team has been a fantastic initiative, enabling them to work across departments, as well as with their community to adopt more sustainable practices. Through collaboration we are creating a thriving community.

Hey, I’m Mand.

xxxxx

Hey, I’m Steven.

I’m the Arts Administration Officer at Vancouver Arts. Each year, I get to work with amazing artists from across our community as we encourage and inspire local schools to get creative in the lead up to the Christmas pageant.

It’s been fab working with Vancouver Arts and the schools to create such amazing floats. The children are awesome and I’m delighted for the community to see what we’ve achieved this year.

From all of us at the City of Albany, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.
