Annual Review 2015This is your summary report forthe Year to 30 September '1 5.

HighlightsMembers at the 201 4 AGMvoted for Rule Bookamendments to add YourHeadrow Housing Group to ourcommon bond and replace theSupervisory Committee with anAudit Committee.

In January, we launched ourMatched Loan for those whoneed instant funds but don'twant to dip into their savings. I tboasts a competitive rate of 4%APR, with no credit checks.

Our Business Start­Up Loan(offered in partnership withLeeds City Credit Union andthe Start-Up Loan Company),is designed to help people funda new business opportunity, orone in the first two years oftrading.

In March, we were awardedInvestors in People BronzeStandard. The assessorcommented: “This is afantastic achievement and Icongratulate the team”.

North Lincolnshire Credit Union(NLCU) voted for a merger withus, registered 1 3 Apri l . Werebranded their branch,renaming it 'NorthernLincolnshire Credit Union (partof Hull & East Yorkshire CreditUnion (HEYCU))'.

We switched on our online loanapplication facil ity in July.

BranchesThe volunteers at our Driffieldbranch celebrated their tenthanniversary of service inSeptember. Their annual quizevening in March raised £337which was divided and donatedto Yorkshire Air Ambulance andMacmil lan nurses.

Goole branch continues toincrease its membership,supported by a new contactpoint at the Moorlands Centre,Old Goole, which is building aloyal fol lowing.Our Pennies 2 Pounds schoolbanks in the area also receiveda boost with a new laptop,purchased with funds donatedby Yorkshire Water.

The Mayor of Withernseadropped in to our Shorescontact point and signed up fora Christmas Saver account. Tocelebrate the opening of newschool banks at Roos, Paulland Aldbrough in Holderness,an East Riding CountyCouncil lor paid us a visit.

Our newest branch at 1 62 HighStreet, Scunthorpe, is fitting innicely as part of HEYCU. Theyhave started a Local Members'Group (similar to Driffield's) tohelp develop our services inthe area.

We also continue tosuccessful ly build ourmembership through ourBridl ington, Beverley, Wetwangand Holme on Spalding Moorbranches and contact points.

Our PeopleOur current staff team is 21strong with 4 new starters and4 leavers in the year.

With a growing team, welaunched an Employees'Council in early 201 5. TheCouncil have created aMember Charter which wil l belaunched at the AGM.

We now have over 90volunteers, with access toimproved training through ournew modular training courses.

Working togetherWe worked with many partners,new and old, to achieve ourmutual goals.

Our merger project wassupported by funding fromNorth Lincolnshire Council ,Lloyds Banking Group/CreditUnion Foundation and theCredit Union Expansion Project(CUEP). This enabled us tobuild on the already excellentfoundations laid by NLCU,extending access to fair andaffordable financial servicesacross the region.We held recruitment eventswith North Lincolnshire Counciland the Ongo Group and madepresentations to key support-groups.

We signed up to work with theWinterton 2022 Big LocalProject to give local residentsbetter access to our services.We wil l simil iarly continue ourinvolvement with Big LocalGreatfield to support theircommunity plan.

Hull College group became apayrol l partner, enabling theiremployees to save and repayloans direct from their pay.We supported their StaffBenefits Fair by offering staff a£1 0 Christmas Saver voucherand a money box on joining.

Since Lloyds Banking Grouppresented us with a grant tosupport our merger, we havemet with their local branchmanagers, who have agreed tosignpost Lloyds customersrequiring small loans to aCredit Union.

At Goole we worked with YourHeadrow Housing to recruittheir tenants, rewarding thosewho saved regularly withincentive bonuses and thechance to win a food hamper ina prize draw.

We supported the launch ofHull People's Premium, a HullCity Council initiative to informresidents about ways to maketheir money go further using amobile app and textmessaging.

Marketing activityOn International Credit UnionDay 201 4 we enjoyed a visitfrom the Lord Mayor ofKingston upon Hull , Council lorMary Glew; while at CountyHall , Beverley, we ran a sign-up session to enrol Councilstaff for payrol l deduction.

We issued many newsreleases, contributed tomagazines, and wereinterviewed several times onBBC Radio Humberside andKCFM, providing greatcoverage in the media.

We exceeded 1 ,000 Facebook'l ikes' in January and launcheda Blogger page, which isregularly written by our ChiefExecutive(hul landeastyorkshirecreditunion.blogspot.co.uk).

Open days were held at ourbranches to promote ourChristmas Saver account, withgive-away branded piggybanks and balloons.We also offered £1 0 ChristmasSaver bonus vouchers to ourmembers, gaining 300 newusers this year!

With CUEP funding we ran acampaign to attract moreemployers to become Payrol lPartners.

Other businessTenants of Hull City Councilcan now open Rent Direct andJam Jar Budgeting accountswith us to help them budgeteffectively.

After careful consideration, wedecided not to open any moreCredit Union Current Accountsfrom April onwards. Existingusers can continue usingCUCA unti l we move to a newbanking platform in 201 6.

The Board decided to conductresearch among members tofind out if they value thebenefits of our self-fundedMember Death BenefitsScheme enough to continueoffering it. I t wil l continue to runfor a further year unti l adecision is made.

Results for the yearMembers' savings deposits again grew strongly. Income earnedfrom lending grew by 22%, mainly due to the new 3% per monthlegal cap on loans. Returns on invested funds also improved. Ourbalance sheet was also further strengthened by the merger andlower operating costs.

Your savings are always safe with us as they are covered by the Financial Services CompensationScheme (FSCS). The FSCS can pay you compensation if your financial services provider goes bust.This includes credit unions. An eligible depositor is protected up to £75,000 (previously £85,000) perperson per provider. This l imit relates to the combined amount in al l of a member's accounts with thesame provider and not each separate one. None of our members has more than £75,000 in our creditunion so everyone is protected.
