Liturgy & Prayer

First Reading: Acts 9:26-31

Paul the Apostle came to Jerusalem, where the

other disciples were afraid of him. Then they

learned that the Lord had spoken to Paul and he had preached openly in Damascus. When

they learned that someone wanted to kill him,

they protected him because they fully believed

he had converted.

Second Reading: I John 3:18-24

John clearly states that we must love one an-

other. All people who believe in Jesus Christ can

show their faith only through their actions. If

people believe in Jesus and love one another as

he commanded us, they prove that they are true believers in Christ.

Gospel: John 15:1-8 Jesus compares himself to a vine, and com-

pares his father to the vine-grower. He explains

how God prunes the barren branches so that

the rest might yield more fruit. He reminds

them that apart from himself, his followers

could not bear fruit.

Holy Hour for Vocations to the Priesthood

The Sisters at the Carmelite Monastery invite you to pray for priests and the vocation

to the priesthood on Sunday, May 6th from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the Carmelite Monastery 26 Harmony School Rd. Flemington.

There will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with prayer, The Holy Rosary and a Homily by

Deacon David Urcinas

Our Lady of Guadalupe

In anticipation of the Diocese of Metuchen Consecration to Our Lady of Guadalupe, the

Hispanic Ministry has so generously donated to

St. Magdalen a painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe for our Narthex. This painting was

blessed by Cardinal Archbishop Carlos Aguiar Retes before

making it’s way from Mexico to Flemington.

Liturgy Corner

When it comes to concerns for our health and the health of our loved ones, we should always turn to prayer. We pray for disease

prevention, for physical healing, and for peace of soul while enduring physical suffering. Fortunately, there seems to be a special saint for just about every illness and health concern we can think of!

The saints are great aids to us in our time of need and help guide us to greater love for Christ through our crosses and trials, espe-cially when it comes to our health. Here is a list of both popular and not-so-well-known saints to invoke for common ailments:

providing the opportunity to do so. This is a short season, but an important one! We need you, my friends,

for a very brief commitment. Come for a vocal warm-up, meet current choir members, try a song or two;

bring your voice & your questions.

I look forward to the joyful music-making. 7:00 pm in the Spiritual Formation Center - May 3rd.

Dear Holy Spirit & St. Cecelia - touch the hearts of your faithful

to help St. Magdalen’s sing your praises this sacrament season.

What Does Saint Alphonsus Liguori, Doctor of the Church, Say About Eucharistic Adoration?

Saint Alphonsus Liguori was born in Naples, Italy in 1696. He was a bishop and also a great doctor of prayer. He was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius IX. St. Alphonsus was the founder of the Redemptionist Congregation. He died peacefully in 1787. He was beatified in 1816 and then canonized in 1839. This is what he suggests about mak-ing a private visit to our Lord, present in the Blessed Sacrament:

Place yourself in the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Speak with Jesus Christ present before you as you would speak to a friend.

Ask forgiveness of your sins and faults. Tell Jesus of your needs.

Ask Jesus for greater love of Him and your neighbor. Remain in His Eucharistic presence praying prayers of love.

Saint Alphonsus Liguori once said, “You must also be aware, that in a quarter of an hour’s prayer spent in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, you will perhaps gain more than in all the other spiritual exercise of the day. It is true that in every place God graciously hears the petitions of those who pray to Him, having promised to do so. ‘Ask, and you shall receive,’ says Jesus Christ.”

Evangelization

Saint of the Week

ST. Athanasius

“Jesus became what we are that He might make us what He is.”

Feast Day: May 2nd

Patron Saint of: Orthodoxy and Theologians

The 13th Day

Based on the memoirs of the oldest seer, Lucia Santos, and many thousands of independent

eye-witness accounts, The 13th Day dramatizes the true story of three young shepherds who experienced six apparitions of Our Lady be-

tween May and October 1917, culminating in the final prophesied Miracle of the Sun on Octo-ber 13. The film shares the secret given to the children by Our Lady, which was told in three parts and included a harrowing vision of hell, prophetic warnings of future events including

the advent and timing of the Second World War, the spread of Communism, and the attempted

assassination of the Pope.

The 13th Day can be found on Formed under “Watch”, “Movies”, “The Life and Witness of

Mary”.

Boletín

Parroquial

St.

Magdalen

Liturgia de la Palabra

Primera Lectura: Hechos 9:26-31
