The Governor also clarified the State’s guidance on social gatherings. Gov. Ricketts was joined by Kathy Siefken, Executive Di- rector of the Nebraska Grocers Association; Zoe Olson, Executive Di- rector of the Nebraska Restaurant Association; and Theresa Thibodeau, owner of Primrose Schoolan educational childcare cen- ter—in Papillion. “As our state goes through this unprecedented public health challenge, I want Nebraskans to know that we will have plenty of food available,” said Governor Ricketts. “The U.S. has the most efficient supply chain of food in the world, and it’s operating effec- tively. Grocery stores are open, and restaurants will continue to serve Nebraskans throughout the pandemic with takeout and drive-thru op- tions.” In keeping with federal guidelines, the State of Nebraska has issued guidance limiting public gatherings to 10 people or less. This social distancing measure is part of a nationwide effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). FREE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING The Nebraska State Education Association (NSEA) today announced it will offer educational programming for elementary and secondary students that will be available free to all Nebraska children beginning Monday, March 23. NSEA is partnering with News Channel Nebraska and Lincoln Public Schools on the project, with financial support from the National Education Association. NSEA President Jenni Benson said four hours of daily live programming will be available through nearly every video and cable TV service, as well as online or via mobile app from Flood Communications News Channel Nebraska. “Our 28,000 members care deeply about their students and want them to continue their learning during these school closures,” said Benson. “We are pleased to partner with News Channel Nebraska and Lincoln Public Schools to make this educational programming available statewide.” Many Nebraska schools are closed due to the Novel Coronavirus pan- demic. More school districts are expected to close in the coming weeks. “During this time of unprecedented challenge to maintain edu- cational continuity for the students of our city and state, I am most ap- preciative of the leadership of NSEA to organize a delivery system that will reach many of our students,” said Dr. Steve Joel, Lincoln Pub- lic Schools superintendent. FINDING SOLUTIONS Nebraska Cattlemen (NC) staff and leadership, focused on finding solutions to help correct the market situation, applaud two letters the National Cattlemen Beef Association (NCBA) sent March 17th to top government and packing industry leaders. The first letter went to U.S. Vice President Mike Pence as chair of the federal government's re- sponse to the coronavirus outbreak. The letter asks that the Admini- stration, in partnership with state and local leaders, take swift and proactive steps to minimize the negative consequences of COVID-19 and preserve the economic viability of the U.S. beef supply chain. Specifically, it asks for USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) to expand the availability of low- and zero-interest loans in addition to increas- ing flexibility of terms for existing loans. SPORTS Fans flocked to their screens as a result of the NSAA’s decision to limit attendance at the boys state basketball tournament. To help accommodate those who couldn’t watch the games in person, News Channel Nebraska paid $150,000 to the National Federation of State High School Associations for the rights to digitally broadcast the tournament from all four sites on Thursday and Fri-day. In previous years, NCN broadcast only at the Devaney Center on Thursday and at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Friday. As a result of the extra coverage, NCN re-ported that total views on its digital channel grew by more than 3,300% from last year. The 12 games broad-cast in 2019 recorded 42,209 total views. This year for 36 games, there were 1,473,396 total views. Nebraska Shrine Bowl officials said Monday that they remain committed to holding the annual all-star football game June 6 in Kearney. In a press release, the Shriners said they will monitor reports and follow the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “We encourage all NSB participants including players, coaches, cheerleaders, and band members to continue preparations for the 62nd annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl and Parade,’’ the release said. “The NSB will keep sup-porting them by providing the latest information and developments accessible on NSB’s website, social media platforms and media advisories.”
