1. Approval of Agenda SHF016-2019 That the agenda for the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Committee
meeting June 6, 2019, be approved, as circulated. Carried 2. Declarations of Interest under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act – nil

3.1. Minutes – Sports Hall of Fame – March 7, 2019
The minutes were approved by Council on April 10, 2019 and provided for Committee’s information.

7. Other/New Business 7.1. Teri Bommer, Coordinator, Sports Liaison, Community Services, re: Induction
Ceremony Feedback
Terri Bommer, Sports Coordinator, Community Services, suggested that Committee provide feedback following the Induction Ceremony held on May 14, 2019, to help determine where improvements may be required for future events.
Committee indicated their overall satisfaction with the event and complimented everyone who offered assistance including staff on their efforts to create an ‘impressive’ ceremony. They noted that the following items even though well received should be revisited:

Ms. Bommer advised that over 200 tickets were purchased for the event, and the painter’s artwork was auctioned for $250. The funds would be donated to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Society.
7.2. Teri Bommer, Coordinator, Sports Liaison, Community Services, re: New Facility
Planning Questionnaire Feedback
Terri Bommer, Sports Coordinator, Community Services, referenced the material included in the agenda and requested feedback from Committee regarding requirements for a proposed new facility. Committee consideration of this matter included:
Indication that a double floored building of approximately 4,500 sq.ft. was required
Ownership of the facility
Potential locations o Benefits of having the facility attached to or located within a City
recreation centre o Suggestion that the community will be better served if all
memorabilia items photos and artifacts were stored at a few strategic locations throughout the City
Referenced the facilities at the City of Brantford and Oshawa that may be an appropriate design/style for Brampton
Suggestion of an expansion at the CAA centre to store the current volume of material in the interim
Design of the site should allow for visitor traffic flow
Benefits of having two facilities to accommodate the communities in the east and west of Brampton
Committee advised that a meeting will be arranged with Mike Hardcastle, General Manager, CAA Centre, to discuss options in the interim for additional space at the CAA centre. Committee noted that further discussion on a proposed facility will continue with the new Committee when meetings resume in September 2019. The following motion was considered:

9.1. News Items – Future / Potential Inductees – Ken Giles
Ken Giles, Committee Member, provided information on various Brampton athletes, highlighting their accomplishments in sports such as, hockey and soccer. Reference was made to hockey player, Sheldon Keefe, being named coach of the year. It was suggested that a nomination be completed and submitted for consideration to the Sports Hall of Fame.
10. Question Period
In response to a question from regarding nominations for next year’s induction event, staff advised that one application was received and the deadline was June 15, 2019.

Municipal Conflict of Interest Act
• The Act applies where a direct or indirect pecuniary (financial
benefit) relationship may exist for a member as a result of a
matter before the Committee
• “relationship” includes parent, spouse, child
• The member must declare a conflict of interest at the beginning of
the meeting and excuse themselves from the proceedings and
involvement in the decision regarding the item
• Declaring a conflict is up to the individual member
• New requirement, declaration to also be made in writing (form)
• Can seek advice regarding conflict of interest from Integrity
Commissioner

Brampton Sports Hall of FameAfter the Chair & Vice Chair, there are 2 positions remaining that
need to be appointed:
Financial Liaison Officer• Works with Community Services to monitor Sports Hall of Fame funds
• Provide a statement of account (provided by the City’s Treasury Dept) at all
committee meetings
Curator • Oversee all aspects of the planning and operation of the actual Hall of
Fame
• Oversee the collection, preservation, research, exhibition and promotion of
all objects, images and history that make up the Sports Hall of Fame
