Our camping program for 2016 began last week, with students in grades three and four head-ing off to Phillip Island. For many of our students this was the first time that they had been away from home for more than one night. This can sometimes be a daunting prospect, but rest assured, the teachers and accompanying staff and parents took every possible step to ensure that the ‘camp experience’ was one that all students enjoyed. We have enjoyed all of the Tiqbiz updates and received lots of positive feedback from parents.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is celebrated across Australia each year between 27th May and 3rd June. The dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.
NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort. The theme for NRW 2016 is Our History, Our Story, Our Future
For more information please go to: http://www.reconciliation.org.au/nrw/what-is-nrw/

Head Lice
Today a nurse from the Yarra Ranges Council came to our

way to eradicate this problem is to ensure that everyone is
taking the same steps to rid our school of head lice. Please
make sure that you follow any procedures and
recommendations sent home with your child. More infor-

First Aid Newsletter
Dear Parents/Guardians,
To ensure your child’s health and safety we would like to share a few items with you.
Health Concerns: Please inform your school of any severe allergies, surgeries, accidents or new
health problems that may occur during the year.
Gastro:
Gastro is a very common illness caused by infection and inflammation of the gut. It causes diar-
rhoea, and sometimes loss of appetite, vomiting and fever. Gastroenteritis means inflammation of
the stomach and intestine.
Symptoms
These can include the following:
diarrhoea (runny, watery poos) abdominal cramps
nausea vomiting
loss of appetite sometimes fever
Course and duration
Gastro usually lasts twenty-four to forty-eight hours depending on what is causing it. However,
some forms of gastro, i.e. rotavirus and norovirus (which can cause particularly severe illness espe-
cially in infants and young children) may last about a week.
Prevention
The best way to prevent gastro is to avoid becoming infected in the first place, so make sure your
children (and you):
wash hands after going to the toilet
wash hands before eating a meal or before preparing any food
I have contacted our cleaners who have agreed to do a ‘deep clean’ of our school this weekend; this
will include special sanitising of all toilets, taps and sinks.
I ask for your co-operation. If your child/children are displaying any symptoms of/or if they have
contracted Gastroenteritis, please keep them home for forty-eight hours after they have stopped
exhibiting symptoms.
We have antiseptic wash in every classroom and will be encouraging children to wash their hands
and use the antiseptic wash before they eat any food and to do the same after going to the toilet.
