Eight year old Malia is extremely brave in her hospital bed, surrounded by her mother Tiffany, her 7-month-old brother Payson and her favorite stuffed whale. Over the course of just three hours, little Malia received 6 separate lab draws, typically requiring 6 or more different needlesticks. For many children, just one needlestick can prove to be a traumatic experience leading to lifelong needle phobia. For Malia, that many blood draws not only induces fear, but can also result in multiple bruises, repeated pain and constant disruption of sleep and healing. Today, Malia received the needle-free PIVO for each of her 6 draws. Without having to endure needles or sharp pokes, Malia remained calm and relaxed the entire time. The procedure is so straightforward that her draws were conducted in dim light without disturbing Malia from rest. “I’m relieved she didn’t feel anything,” said Malia’s mother. "For kids and their families any sort of relief from added pain or stress helps." By providing relief from fear and pain, PIVO can impact the level of distress and concern for pediatric patients, their caregivers and their families.

"For kids and their families any sort of relief from added pain or stress helps."

By providing relief from fear and pain, PIVO can impact the level of distress and concern for pediatric patients, their caregivers and their families.
