Principal’s Report
Welcome back everyone!
Congratulations to the students who represented Tighes Hill
Public School last Friday at the Zone Cross Country event. Toby,
Archie & Seb qualified for the regional team – well done you
three! We are so proud.
I would like to thank all our parents and carers for giving all their
children such a wonderful holiday break. The children have
returned to school ready for hard work, full of enthusiasm and
very settled. School uniforms look great as well. Thank you
everyone.

2020 OC Test Applications for current Year 4 students
Parents wishing to apply for our Year 5 Opportunity Class (OC) placement in 2020 on behalf of their chil-
dren need to complete the online application before Friday 17th May. Students in Year 4 were given the
application information last week to direct parents to the location of the online applications. Any issues
with this process, please see your classroom teacher or contact the office. Applications will close on
Friday 17th May. https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-
classes/year-5
New Canteen!
Welcome to our wonderful new canteen operators who began last week. It’s been great seeing lots of
families support our canteen by placing orders and bringing in money for daily over the counter sales. If
you haven’t tried it yet, you can access the menu on our website and app. There’s lots of tasty healthy
options available. Please be aware of a price correction: Icy treats, Juices and Moosies are $2 each.
PEANUTS/Anaphylactic reaction reminder
The number of children at Tighes Hill Public School with allergies to different food products and
substances is growing. At this school we have students with severe (life threatening) reactions to peanuts
and all tree nuts. To maximise the wellbeing and safety for all students, parents are asked not to pack
peanut butter sandwiches or nut products for your children and to make sure that you are vigilant in
reading labels of all pre-packaged foods. Please let’s work together to provide a safe environment for all
students.
Office Times
The school office opens at 8.30am each morning and closes at 3.30pm. Outside of these operating hours
the office cannot process financial activities or administer first aid treatment in the sick bay. Those families
staying onsite after the school day has finished take full responsibility for their children’s wellbeing and
safety. Access to the sick bay outside of the office operating hours is not permitted. Thank you for
supporting the school with this endeavor.
NAPLAN
Year 3 and 5 children will sit for the National assessment tests in weeks 3 and 4. As the name implies the
NAPLAN tests will be administered Australia wide in all educational settings. Please make sure that your
child is at school all of week 3 and 4 so that they can participate in this test plan. Please don’t hesitate to
contact me if you require further information.
Dogs in School
Just a reminder that we don’t have or bring dogs into the school at any time as was agreed through the
P&C. This is regardless of size or breed. I would also encourage you not to tie your dogs up at the entry
points to our school as students exiting or entering the school have to pass close by them and this is a real
issue for those students with phobia and fears of dogs. Many thanks for supporting the school with this
issue.

Easter Fun!
Thank you to everyone who came along to support our school, students and P&C on the last day of term
at our Easter Hat Parade. Despite the rain, we persevered with our parade and raffle. Thank you to
everyone who bought tickets and made donations. We raised just over $1000 from our raffle! A super
effort.
Kindy Club
Kindy Club is back up and running this year with two sessions being delivered each Tuesday. Mrs Ireland
and Mrs Crump have alerted me to the fact that we have a few spaces left so if your child starts school
next year (2020) and you are local to us, why not visit the school and let them take part in our extended
orientation program. Please contact the office for more information as required.
Stage 3 Sport - Gymnastics
This term students in years 5 and 6 are taking part in a gymnastics program for sport, delivered by
qualified coaches from Primarily Active each Monday. The total cost of this program is $40 per student.
Thank you to all the families who have already paid in full.
Stage 3 Great Aussie Bush Camp
Information has been sent home with all Year 5 and 6 students about our major excursion taking place in
term 3 to the Great Aussie Bush Camp at Tea Gardens. Our camp will take place from Wednesday 18th
September - Friday 20th September. The total cost is $280 per student. Thank you to the families who
have already paid in full or made their $50 deposit.
Entries for this year’s Australian Mathematics Competition are now open!
All students in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have the opportunity to take part. The
cost is $6 per student. Notes were sent home last week and can also be
found on our website. For more information, please see Ms Armstrong.
School News
The Woolworths Earn and Learn competition has begun! From now until Tuesday 25th June, you can collect stickers at any Woolworths store for every $10 you spend. These stickers can be placed on a sticker sheet and then brought back here to school or dropped into your local Woolworths store collection box.
Why not ask your friends and neighbours to support our school by collecting stickers for us!
The more points we earn, the more we get to use on purchasing teaching and learning resources for our school. Sticker sheets have been sent home and there are more at the office when you need them. If you have any questions please see Ms Armstrong.
ICAS Competitions 2019
Information and entry forms for
external academic competitions for
students in Years 3-6 was sent home last week. This year, UNSW ICAS assessments are going online
(with the exception of writing for Y3-4) and will all take place during the month of September.
Competitions available are Digital Technologies, Science, Spelling Bee, Writing, English and
Mathematics. Each competition costs $14.50 per student. If you would like your child to take part in any of
the ICAS competitions this year, entry forms and payment needs to be returned to school by the end of
term 2. Any questions regarding ICAS, please see Ms Armstrong.
