They form a considerable investment as part of the overall value of your home. It is worth ensuring that you understand what are the important factors in the consideration for choosing windows.

Your major areas of consideration should be:

• Substrate (material the window or door is made out of) and treatment.

Timber Selection

Homeview timber windows and doors can help you fulfil your dreams and capture that look you really want.

Homeview’s standard range covers the most frequently used types today, whilst maintaining the timeless beauty and warmth of timber. Homeview carefully selects timbers that combine beauty with stability and long life.

Our range includes Meranti, Western Red Cedar, KD Hardwood and pre-primed, laminated/finger-jointed plantation Pine. All of these timbers have proven to be extremely stable over time and will deliver you years of trouble free service. KD Hardwood is taken from Victorian forests under Government regulations. No old growth – only regrown timber. Kiln drying creates a more stable timber that will not twist or warp.

All Homeview Meranti and Pine timbers are kiln dried and organically treated to protect against decay or Borer/Termite attack, like our LOSP (Light Organic Solvent Preservative) Treated Finger Jointed Pine.

Or if you prefer Western Red Cedar, you will benefit from the natural protection from the elements this timber delivers.

Homeview Meranti, Kiln Dried Hardwood and Western Red Cedar timbers can be painted or stained to suit your tastes. Natural beauty and grain adorn these timbers, with Meranti being highly dent and warp resistant.

But if you want to paint your windows and you want a beautiful finish, you can’t go past pre-primed, laminated/finger-jointed plantation Pine. This timber has been engineered, kiln dried, laminated (where necessary) and finger jointed to provide a highly stable and environmentally friendly timber that will deliver a high quality finish.

But the best news is that these modern timbers, combined with the latest technology coatings will deliver you many years of trouble free service. And over time, if you do decide to change the look of your home, unlike other window materials, with timber you can, simply and quickly – it’s up to you!

Key Features & Benefits

• Comes with a keyed sash lock as standard, in a range of colours.

• Available with boxed mullions for that traditional look.

• Available in various timber types and also available pre-primed.

• Sashes can be removed from inside for painting or cleaning.

• Optional flywire screen available.

• Allows windows up to 1200mm wide to 1500mm high and 950mm wide over 2400 high.

• Heavy Duty Jambliner allows windows up to 1200mm wide to 2400mm high.

Jambliner Double Hung Windows

Vertical sliding window and has been used in home construction throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Historically the most common design has been the “weights and cords” Double Hung window, which used a set of counter weights hidden in the frame to offset the weight of the sash.

The Homeview “Jambliner” Double Hung window offers a state of the art mechanism that not only makes opening and closing the window easy, it also allows you to completely remove the sashes from inside for easy painting and cleaning. This is not normally possible with traditional Double Hung windows.

The Jambliner system incorporated into the Homeview window is flush fitted into the side of the frame and does not require painting or maintenance. The Jambliner system also negates the need for containers to hold the counter weights (called boxed mullions). This allows the maximum amount of glass in the frame, therefore more light.

Note: Jambliner is available in a limited colour range

Counter Balance | Double Hung Windows

Much like the Double Hung Jambliner on the previous page, the Counter Balance Double Hung window is effectively a vertical sliding window and has been used in home construction throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Homeview counter balance Double Hung window offers a combination of the look of weights & cords and a modern counter balance sash system, adding that sense of tradition and technology in one package.

The heart of this new Homeview system is the counter balance mechanism, which utilises the weight of one sash to counter the weight of the other. By sliding up the inner sash, the outer sash equally moves in the opposite direction. The counter balance system also negates the need for containers to hold the counter weights (called boxed mullions). This allows the maximum amount of glass in the frame, therefore more light.

All the advantages of weights and cords, but none of the disadvantages. As with most Homeview windows, our counter balance Double Hung windows can be fitted with standard, toughened or laminated glass and can even be glazed for low noise or double glazed for superior energy efficiency.

Homeview Sashless Double Hung windows will complement the design characteristics of your home, whilst providing superior climate control and unrestricted views.

The heart of the Homeview system is the counter balance mechanism, which utilises the weight of one pane to counter the weight of the other. By sliding up the inner pane, the outer pane equally moves in the opposite direction.

Easily installed in restricted spaces the windows have integrated long life slides with self-aligning grooves and a large anti-jamming sliding clearance. The rigid centre metal track provides improved noise and weather insulation. The concealed locking feature operates in the closed or partially open position.

Available with Homeview’s range of timber frames, Homeview Sashless Double Hung windows are designed to withstand significant adverse weather conditions and will therefore keep the weather just where you want it.

As with most Homeview windows, our Sashless Double Hung windows can be fitted with toughened or laminated glass and can even be glazed for low noise or double glazed for superior energy efficiency.

Screened Bifold Door

Don’t like to compromise? — Then the Homeview Screened Bifold door is for you!

Combining Homeview’s standard Bifold door features with a unique screening solution, you can now keep the flies, bugs and other pests out of the home while you continue to enjoy the uninterrupted views and summer breeze in comfort!

The Homeview Bifold Screen is smooth to operate and can be opened and closed with a touch of a finger. Unique Load Balancing Technology (LBT) frees the screen of heavy springs and latches, instead it uses only magnets and pulleys. Give the screen a push and it slides horizontally along its track until it comes to a smooth stop. Then when its time to retreat indoors simply slide the screen back into the concealed housing (built within the door jamb and wall cavity) where it is out of sight and out of mind.

The Homeview Bifold Screen also includes Tight Technology that ensures the mesh is always at its optimum tension, avoiding creases, sagging and tearing as well as maintaining a smooth uniform appearance across the entire span of the door.

Finally, should the screen be bumped out of its track by a gust of wind, or where a friend or family member should fail to see its unobtrusive PetScreen Lite mesh, the Bifold Screen automatically resets simply by retracting it back into its concealed housing.

As with most Homeview door products, the Screened Bifold door can be fitted with standard, toughened or laminate glass and can even be glazed for low noise or double glazed for superior energy efficiency.

Bifold Window Pre-Installation Instructions1 A structural beam or lintel is recommended to be fitted above all Bifold

Window units.

2 The lintel must be able to support the weight of the Bifold Window unit. Bifold Window units weigh approximately 22kg per m2.

FOR EXAMPLE A 1500mm x 2500mm Bifold Window will weigh 1.5m x 2.5m x 22kg = 82kg. NOTE Twin glazing will double the calculation.

3 Failure to comply with instructions may result in poor operation of the unit and could void the warranty.

Bifold Window Installation Instructions1 Fit flashing to sill and where required to stiles and head.

2 The complete unit must be installed square, plumb and level. Panels will not operate successfully with a bowed sill or a dropped head.

3 It is highly recommended that the Bifold Window head is fixed to a suitable lintel above. Fix the Bifold Window head to the lintel as per drawing below.

The Bifold Window head extrusion has been pre-drilled with a 16mm clearance hole and a 5mm screw hole in the centre of the track. Use a 75mm screw to screw the Bifold Window head to the lintel.

NOTE: AS2047 sets out the requirements for installation of timber windows in buildings. It is the responsibility of the installer to properly adjust windows and doors as per instructions.

Care & Installation Instructions

Pre-Installation

• Store in a dry location, under cover where possible, to protect against damage.

• Do not rack frames out of square.

• Prevent exposure to moisture particularly pooling or ponding.

• Do not remove bands from Double Hung Windows until after installation.

Care and Maintenance

• Keep wet cement, mortar and brick cleaning acid from contact with timber or aluminium before, during and after installation.

• If accidentally splashed, wash off immediately with clean water, otherwise permanent staining or damage may occur, voiding the warranty.

• Do not use acid to remove mortar stains on window frames.

• Hose down brick work to remove residual cleaning acid which may leach out and cause damage to the finish later.

• Do not place windows directly onto green concrete slabs.

• Keep the tracks of sliding windows and doors clear of sand and cement droppings.

• Do not use window frames to support planks or temporary scaffolding.

• Clean up when the job is complete with mild detergent and rinse with clean water.

Glass

• To clean simply wipe over the surface with a few drops of methylated spirits on a damp cloth, then polish the surface dry with a lint free cloth.

• Ensure that all cleaning cloths are free from any abrasive substances.

• Never remove abrasive materials such as mortar from the glass with a scraper. (To clean, flood with water and dab with a sponge. Don’t scrub with sponge or scratching will occur.)

• Avoid causing extreme temperature changes as this may lead to thermal fracture of the glass (i.e. do not direct hot or cold water onto glass).

Locks and Catches

• Keep locks and catches clean and free from blind cords and any other interference which may prevent proper operation.

Painting

• Timber windows must have a first coat of an appropriate paint, oil or stain applied within 30 days of delivery.

• Fill nail recesses, lightly sand and clean immediately prior to the application of further coats.

• Re-prime immediately if primer coat is removed during installation.

• Paint manufacturers instructions must be followed in the application of all subsequent coats of paint.

• It is recommended to use light colours on all timber products.

• Do not paint over weatherseals.

• Primed products need to be lightly sanded before the undercoat and top coats are applied. Primer is not a substitute for an undercoat.

Adjustments

• All products should be adjusted as required to maintain correct performance.

• Adjustment instructions are supplied with the product.

Care & Installation Instructions

Bifold Door Pre-Installation Instructions1 A structural beam or lintel must be fitted above all Bifold Door units.

There should be a 10mm clearance between the lintel and the Bifold Door head. Recommended lintel position should be as shown in details 1, 2 and 3.

2 The lintel must be able to support the weight of the Bifold Door unit. Bifold Door units weigh approximately 22kg per m2.

FOR EXAMPLE A 2100mm x 2400mm Bifold Door will weigh 2.1m x 2.4m x 22kg = 110kg. NOTE Twin glazing will double the calculation.

3 The Bifold Door sill must not be directly tiled or concreted up to. This may result in the sill cupping and the sill track compressing.

4 The Bifold Door sill must be supported over the full width. Failure to do this may result in the outside of the sill cracking.

5 Do not cover sill drainage holes with tiles or concrete.

6 Failure to comply with instructions may result in poor operation of the unit and could void the warranty.

Bifold Door Installation Instructions1 Fit flashing to sill and where required to stiles and head.

2 The complete unit must be installed square, plumb and level. Doors will not operate successfully with a bowed sill or a dropped head. A 3mm upward bow in the head is preferable.

3 Drill 3mm diameter pilot holes (9mm clearance holes for steel lintel) at no more than 1200mm centres through the centre head bead and door head up into the lintel. The end holes should be no more than 200mm from each door jamb. One hole should be drilled through the centre of the Bifold Door head.

4 With screws (bolts) provided, screw up through the pilot holes into the lintel. The centre fixing should be fixed first. A spring washer should be used with steel lintel fixings.

5 Make sure the head and sill are packed square and level. The head should be packed at screw locations.

6 Frame to be secured by backnailing and packed accordingly. Fixings through exposed timber should be hot dip galvanized steel, 300 series stainless steel or silicone bronze. Do not use uncoated steel fixings or steel wool for dressing timber.
