1. List of Assignments of the First Semester

In the following table you can find all of the assignments and tests that we are supposed to execute during the course of the first semester. On a side note, it should be noted that Spanish and International Business Communication had the most assignments during the first semester. I have also included the group assignments such as International trade, risk management and people management.

2. Calendar First Semester (October – January)

In this part, you can find my personal planning throughout the first semester. It should be noted that because of the fact that I have a Mac Computer, printing my Outlook calendar is kind of chaotic and unclear. That’s why I have decided to capture screenshots and compile them all together in a single document. I do think that using this method will be better to showcase my personal calendar and display a more prominent planning tool.

The first semester of international business management took place during the months of October till January. During the course of the first semester we had loads of different tasks and tests, combined with the increasingly important seminars that are an integral part of the talent and management development program.

3. Personal Reflection and Evaluation (October – January)

This personal reflection was made during the mid-term (10th of November 2015). As of today, I have been on schedule with all of the designated tasks and projects. After a difficult start of the group assignment of finance, our group has picked up the trail and we have managed to compile an extensive report about a new company (we changed from Deutsche Bank to Arne’s grandfather’s business). I have been reading my book of ethics (book about the general economy) and I’m almost finished with this important assignment. However, I have to conclude that my biggest time wasters have been watching television (movies and TV shows) and practicing some sports (tennis training and sailing). On a side note, most of the group assignments have been going excellent. I’m the mutual partner of Thomas Burssens in all of the vital projects, and I have to say that we have made significant progress. Together we are closely working together, and most of the content of the projects has been excellent. On the contrary, I’m doing most of the working on tasks and projects pretty efficiently by planning ahead and conducting enough research.

a. SMART analysis of my time wasters

§ Specific: This aspect of the SMART analysis might be the most interesting aspect. I tend to lose loads of time while focusing on my time wasters. Social media in particular has been the biggest issue due to the fact that I get notified whenever something happens on my various social media accounts. I should be able to abolish my time wasters while I’m working on my projects and assignments. It might be interesting to put my mobile phone away while I’m doing all of the important tasks, that way I won’t be distracted whenever a notification pops up. Especially during the exam period, I would want to make sure that my phone is on flight mode and far away so that I can focus on the important exams in order to get good grades.

§ Measurable: I have to make sure that my phone is far away, in that way it will be easier to measure this important goal. Just putting my phone on the flight mode and being offline will have a huge impact and that way I won’t waste any time on social media while studying.

§ Achievable: This can be achievable if I do this right away, and as of now I haven’t been using my phone as much as I did before, which is a good thing. I will have to persevere.

§ Relevant: Hugely important since it’s a substantial part of planning and time management.

§ Time-bound: After the end of this first semester and more importantly after having finished the exams I will have a clear view on how far I have come. I might come to the conclusion that I still have a long road ahead in terms of (miss)using most of my precious time.

5. Calendar Second Semester (February – June)

In this part, you can find my personal planning throughout the second semester.

The second semester of international business management took place during the months of February till June. During the course of the first semester we had loads of different tasks and tests, combined with the increasingly important seminars that are an integral part of the talent and management development program.

6. Personal Reflection and Evaluation (February – June)

The end-term evaluation of international business management. The second semester definitely had more tasks than the first semester. On a positive note however, this basically means that we will have less exams than in the first semester. We only have four exams (+retake tax), which is quite okay and substantially easier than the first term. This semester was quite hard, with as previously mentioned before, a wide arrange of tasks. I did lose a lot of time on creating my personal websites of e-skills and talent and management respectively. On the contrary, this was basically due to the fact that I wanted to obtain high grades for these courses. Considering my time wasters, I have managed to adapt the perfect strategy for not wasting as much time to social media as before. I developed this specific rule, that I would only look on social media at the evenings, and it has worked out quite well so far. The basic rule of no notifications during the exam period remains however. In the end, I have learnt to plan way more systematically than before and I reckon that the subject of this assignment is very important for our future career.
