Yakima, WashingtonI first went to college at Western Washington
University in 1996I finished my undergraduate art degree
at WWU in 2000 When I finish my certificate program

My definition of educational
technologyEducational Technology is a vital
means to connect with students of today. Today, technology is second nature for students,
therefore teachers must integrate and facilitate
current technology in their classrooms.

10 Tips for Teaching Technology to Teachers http://edtechpower.blogspot.com/2009/09/10-tips-for-teaching-technology-to.html
Kindergarten technology
When I was in kindergarten, we had a wooden kitchen play set.
To my knowledge our school did not have ANY computers in classrooms.
The librarian checked out books to us with a paper based system. (Not computerized.)

High school technologyIn my high school photo class we had 1 computer and our teacher was excited about a new program called “Photoshop”.
With a flatbed scanner images could be scanned into the computer then edited in Photoshop.
We learned how to use Word to write papers, and our library was moving to
a computer based check out system.
College technologyIn my undergraduate years, email and the internet was gaining popu-larity. Our school got an email system, but no one used it. I never had to send an email or access the internet for any class.
Currently at UH, email and the internet are integral parts of every class.
The COE requires students in my program to have laptops.
Every UH class that I’ve taken requires us to utilize online resources.
A vivid technology learning experienceStudents receiving feed-
back via online methods.Students viewing their
artwork online and having their work online so they can share it with others globally.
Ability to research and review famous artworks with the click of a mouse.

A technology I want to use in my classroom
As a graphic designer, I hope that I can teach a graphic design course. To do so, I’d need Mac computers equipped with the “Adobe Creative Suite” softwareprograms.
My vision of the classroom
of the futureI like the idea of students
cooperating and collaborating via online opportunities.
I would like to have class websites where students art projects can be posted for other students to review and comment on.

A challenge for teaching Resources will definitely
be a challenge. I have heard from other graphic design teachers who don’t have the computers and software that they would like to have for their students.
Also I think it will be challenging for teachers to keep up with current technology. The students may easily adapt and assimilate to new technology quicker and easier than teachers.
