Meals on Wheels Program at the

Norfolk Senior Center

The Meals on Wheels Program from HESSCO provides meals to Norfolk seniors. Volun-teer drivers deliver meals to your home. There is no personal contact, and can also serve as a check-in on

your well-being.

Please contact HESSCO at 781-784-4944 if you or someone you know is interested in receiving home delivered meals. A $3.00 suggested, voluntary, and confidential donation per meal will help defray the

actual cost of the meal, which is $6.50.

New Service Available in Response to COVID-19

The MetroWest Aging and Disability Consortium now partners with HESSCO to offer home delivered meals

to Norfolk individuals under age 60 living with a disability. For information contact HESSCO at

781-784-4944

HESSCO is looking for volunteer drivers contact Jayne at 781-784-4944

Information Regarding the November 3rd General Election:

The Town Clerk’s office is happy to provide the fol-lowing information regarding the upcoming General Election on Tuesday, November 3rd.

The ballot will include the offices of the US President & Vice President, members of Congress, the State Legislature, and other state and county offices as well as ballot questions.

There will be in-person voting available on Election Day at the Freeman-Kennedy School. The polls will be open from 7am until 8pm. Measures will be in place to help maintain social distancing, including limiting the number of voters allowed into the polls at one time.

There will also be in-person Early Voting available from Saturday, October 17th until Friday, October 30th. Our in-person Early Voting will be held in the Com-munity Room at the Norfolk Public Library.

A third option for voting in the General Election is to Vote Early by mail. Many voters have utilized this option for the State Primary Election and the Town Clerk’s office would like to encourage our Senior Community to take advantage of this availability.

Using the Vote Early by mail system will help minimize any exposure risk to both yourself and the poll workers. A secure drop-box will be available at Town Hall. If you have any questions please reach out to Town Clerk Carol Greene at 508-528-1400 or email [email protected]

Senior Center Profile: Jerry Calhoun

We are pleased to announce that Jerry was just elected Chair of the Norfolk Council on Aging Board.

For the past five years Jerry has been participating in activities from luncheons to bridge, to lectures about baseball and other sports trivia, to Council on Aging meetings as the liaison be-tween the senior center and HESSCO.

After reporting to the Coun-cil on Aging at monthly meetings regarding HESSCO programs/activities, he was invited to join the Council on Aging

three and a half years ago. Jerry says he has enjoyed conferring with other members about the needs and preferences of our seniors who visit the Senior Center, as well as those who remain in their own homes. Jerry encourages others to join our Council on Aging (which meets monthly), and welcomes new members with in interest in supporting our programs and director.

In addition, Jerry volunteers as an ombudsman at a local Rest Home, as well as driving/delivering Meals on Wheels (in Norfolk) once a week. He still enjoys following the Red Sox and Patriots, even in this unu-sual season! In his spare time, he enjoys reading, cook-ing and gardening. Jerry was a hospice chaplain on Long Island for several years before coming to Nor-folk. Covid-19 has had a dramatic impact on our sen-iors, and Jerry says the main attraction for returning to

the center is an opportuni-ty to socialize with other people. In the next few months, Jerry hopes we can find creative ways to connect our seniors with

one another, whether in person, at the center or re-motely. Thank you, Jerry, for all that you do!

Do you suffer from TMSS the Too Much Stuff Syndrome?

Does clutter keep you from enjoying your home? Having an uncluttered space can make your time at home more enjoyable during these challenging times. Remember, there will come a time when you will have

to deal with this “stuff” - take control of it now while you still can. Try to devote half an hour each day and you’ll start seeing a difference.

Watercolor Class: Thursdays 10:15am Join Diane Bell's 6-week watercolor class at the Norfolk Senior Center on Thursdays from 10:15am to 12:15pm,

beginning September 3rd. Learn to paint in this medi-um or just come to improve your skills, as all levels are welcome. Painting with other people will help you improve as an artist while having fun in a relaxed en-vironment. Maximum class size - 8. Cost: $100. A subsidy is available to Norfolk residents who are members of the Friends of the COA. To register or for details, call the senior center: 508-528-4430.
