That announcement was made yesterday by the Stanley Warner Co. of Philadelphia, which also said the opening show would be "Tales of Manhattan," hailed as one of film- land's mat masterful productions. For the two-week period begin- ning Oct. 36, it was announced, the theatre will become a legitimate house, while the Irving Berlin musi- cal show, "This Is the Army," played by men in the U. 8. services, has its Philadelphia run. HAD STORMY CAREER Thereafter the theatre will return to the presentation of motion pic- tures. The theatre has had a stormy career, from the viewpoint of the show world. A $5,000,000 edifice, it opened Feb. 28, 1828, but found it necessary to close with the arrival of the depression. Once again, on Nov. 15, 1834, it opened under the direction of the late Samuel L. (Roxy) Rothapfel, with first-class Broadway entertain- ment. But mounting expenses forced a second closing in February, 1835. The picture which will launch the reopening will feature a star galaxy including Henry Fonda, Charles Boyer, Charles Laughton, Paul Robeson, Edward G. Robinson, Ginger Rogers and Rita Hayworth. The Mastbaum Reopens Soon

After more than seven years of darkness, the Mastbaum Theatre, 20th and Market sts., will reopen Sept. 4 as a motion picture house.

That announcement was made yesterday by the Stanley Warner Co. of Philadelphia, which also said the opening show would be "Tales of Manhattan," hailed as one of filmland's m a t masterful productions.

For the two-week period beginning Oct. 36, i t was announced, the theatre will become a legitimate house, while the Irving Berlin musical show, "This Is the Army," played by men in the U. 8 . services, has its Philadelphia run. HAD STORMY CAREER

Thereafter the theatre will return to the presentation of motion pictures.

(Roxy) Rothapfel, with first-class Broadway entertainment. But mounting expenses forced a second closing in February, 1835.

The picture which will launch the reopening will feature a star galaxy including Henry Fonda, Charles Boyer, Charles Laughton, P a u l Robeson, Edward G. Robinson, Ginger Rogers and Rita Hayworth.
