    Pre-Conference WorkshopsOctober 21, 2010

    The Teaching and Learning in the Cloud conference starts on October 21 with anumber of half-day workshops that will provide in-depth learning opportunities foreducators to work in detail on learning about how cloud-based tools can supportspecic aspects of learning.

    Each workshop costs $40 for anyone (members or non-members of MACUL). Youcan register online, or on-site, if space permits. Registration is limited for each session.Registrants should check the online page for the workshops to see about advancerequirements and materials to bring to any session.

    SESSION 1 Googles Collaborative Tools: Getting Started

    8:30 am NoonWorkshop leader: Rushton Hurley, New Vistas for Learning You hear people talk about Google stuff, but have never quite learned to use thesetools and resources yourself. Youve been waiting for someone who could explain it ina friendly and human way now is your moment! In this workshop, youll learn thebasics of creating and sharing with Google Books, Maps, Docs, Presentations,Spreadsheets, Forms, and Sites.

Along the way, you will get glimpses of other Googleresources you might choose to explore further.

    SESSION 3 Project Based Learning in the Cloud8:30 am - NoonWorkshop leader: Stephen Best, University of MichiganProject Based Learning (PBL) can provide an engaging experience for students to

    learn. But, these efforts also focus on different skills and needs than more traditionallearning, including collaboration, time management, and inquiry practices. There are anumber of cloud-computing tools and sites that can support these needs. During thissession, well take a hands-on approach explore a number of these tools and see howthey t into the PBL process, and how to use these to manage the project. Whetheryou are coming to learn about project-based learning, or learn about these onlinetools, this session will take you from concept to plan to project. Come with ideas of projects you want to do with your classes.

    SESSION 4 Integrating Online Tools to Meet Multiple Learning Needs12:45 4:15 pm

    Workshop leader: Anne Thorp. Ph.D., Ottawa Area ISDOnline tools just may be the answer to reaching the multiple needs of learners in yourclassroom. Auditory learners, visual learners, and combination learners will benetfrom the addition of cloud-based tools in your classroom. You dont have a Moodle?With cloud computing, there are many alternatives such as blogs, wikis, and websitesthat are user friendly and easy to use. Come on in, explore, experiment, and getexcited about teaching and reading your students in a different way!

    There are a number of Web 2.0 and cloud-based tools that are great for supportingstudents, but what about teachers? In this workshop, well explore a number of toolsand resources for teachers to collaborate and engage in ongoing professionaldevelopment. Well look at a number of tools and how they can best help teacherlearning, and will see what some of the newest generation of online tools can do tohelp support learning communities and individual professional development.
