ADULT ADHD
Although attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) begins in childhood, it is often not diagnosed until adulthood. Adult ADHD may be more difficult to diagnose as the symptom of hyperactivity may be less apparent; however, problems with restlessness, impulsivity, and difficulty focusing on tasks will likely still be noticeable. Other conditions, such as mood and anxiety disorders, often coexist with (though are not caused by) adult ADHD, further complicating diagnosis. For many, these symptoms will decrease over time, but for others, they will continue to make the functions of daily life challenging and, in some cases, impossible. Impulse control issues can become particularly problematic when dealing with an outburst of anger and frustration. This can make both personal and professional relationships difficult.
Treatment plans for ADHD can include medicine, therapy, education or learning more about ADHD, and getting family support. Together these things can help you find new ways to do things that can make day-to-day life easier. That can make you feel better in gen-eral and feel better about yourself.
