than 25 years to help save lives by:

Since the programme’s inception The Union has worked with over 100 organisations in more
than 33 countries administering grants to low and middle-income countries
�Countries supported to implement FCTC through Grants for governments and NGO in include:
- Madagascar - Benin
Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use (BI)
The Union’s regional offices manage grants in collaboration with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK)
supported by the World Lung Foundation with financial assistance from the Bloomberg Philanthropies
- Madagascar - Benin
- Mauritius - Cote d'Ivoire
- Chad - Guinea
- Burkina faso - Kenya
- Niger - South Africa
- Mauritania �The Union provides ongoing technical assistance and training to grantees to ensure the
successful completion of projects.
� All African countries can apply for grants for a term of one to two years
�Focus of grants funding goes to projects tackling one or more of the following:
�Tax and price measures, including anti-smuggling measures.

�Direct and indirect advertising bans and effective enforcement of bans, including
promotion and sponsorship.
�Establishment of smokefree workplaces and public places, and effective enforcement of
smokefree policies.
� Implementation of graphic warning labels on tobacco products.
�Other evidence-based regulatory/legislative initiatives.

What is it about?
The Union’s courses are divided into two complementary streams:
Technical Training: These courses are designed to build the technical capacity of tobacco control practitioners
planning and implementing tobacco control policies that meet their country’s obligations under the Framework
Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).
Management Training: Good management is crucial to the success of any project. The International Management
Development Program (IMDP) for Tobacco Control supports grantees to help them meet the goals of their projects
by offering courses that will enhance their organisational efficiency and effectiveness.
