Rotary Mysore wishes them both a great birthday and the very best in the days and years to come. We will be stating the obvious in talking about the inimitable father-son duo of MTR and Rajaram. Membership Development andExtension – Quantity vis-à-vis Quality

Membership Development andExtension – Quantity vis-à-vis Quality

PDG R. Guru chaired the panel discussion l a s t T h u r s d a y o n M e m b e r s h i p Development and Extension with passionate interaction from the Rotarians present. PDG Guru started the proceedings by saying that the overall membership of Rotary has been constant at around 1.22 million for the last several years. The target therefore, is a 10% increase (beyond attrition). External expansion is where new clubs are added, and internal expansion is adding new members to existing clubs. He said that there are no fixed benchmarks regarding quantity – Birmingham has 584 members, Bangalore has 280 whereas the average club membership in the Americas is about 40. He then threw open the floor for a debate on Quantity vis-à-vis Quality.

Rtn. PP M.T. Ramachandra, stressed on commitment and mentioned how in 33 years of Rotary he had never compromised on attendance. It is the duty of seniors to talk to Rotarians, he said. The stress should be on giving. A 3-month gestation period is required for an aspirant to decide whether he truly wants to be a Rotarian, he stated. Rtn. Ravi C. likened quantity to top line and quality to bottom line. Increase the number and quality of projects, he said. Rtn. Arunachalam mentioned that Quality comes from Quantity, which Rtn. Sabareeshan changed to Quantity follows

Quality. Proper Annual plans would be imperative to correct direction he said and added that attendance should consider projects and activities as well. Rtn. KBG preferred quality - “small is beautiful” he said. He reminded that membership of Rotary is through invitation, and stress has to be on 100% quality. Rotary cannot be a reformers' club – a new member has to be acceptable to all the office bearers and once he becomes a Rotarian, he should jump in with both feet in terms of involvement and responsibility. Rtn. Srinivas Bharadwaj mentioned that rather than the numbers, who comes into Rotary is important. Rtn. Dr. B.R.Pai was of the opinion that the way of thinking of youngsters has changed and we have to be in tune with the times. Rtn. PP K.S. C h a n d r a s h e k a r s t r e s s e d t h a t membership has to be by invitation. Rtn. Dr. Ghori wore the badge on his sleeve - Show Rotary Cares. Time for some introspection, he said and was willing to volunteer to bridge the gap between the old and the new. Rtn. Raghavan asked the pertinent question – “Where are the sisters?”. Rtn. Rajaram's perspective was to think beyond awards - maybe we could achieve better service in that case was his opinion.

Winding up the discussion, PDG Guru stated that attitude is the key; one should help reactivate a member, if need be, let it be known that you can make a positive difference. He concluded with an anecdote for what is not Rotary – Two persons met on a plane; after sometime they realized that they were both Rotarians; and over a period of time, they realized that both of them belonged to the same club.

Vidya daana by Rotary Mysore

thMs. Chitra is an MCA 5 sem student at Vidya Vikas Engg College. She didn't have the financial resources to pull her through the rest of her education. But she had a double stroke of good fortune. First, she had a teacher like Ms. Sushmita who was willing to move out of her comfort zone and approach Rtn. Dinesh Kothari. Second when Dinesh made the initial donation and also introduced her to Rotary Mysore. Rotarians followed one after the other and in minutes the needful was done with a collection of Rs. 65,000/=Rtn. Dinesh Kothari & family initiated and started off with Rs. 25,000/= and this was followed by generous contributions by PDG. R. Guru, Rtn. Anantharaj Urs K G, Rtn. Ravindra Kumar D, Rtn. Arunachala S.B., Rtn. Sabareeshan C K, Rtn. Dinesh S K, Rtn. Dr. B R Pai, Rtn. Ravi C, Rtn. Suchendra Urs, Rtn. Raghavan N, Rtn. Prashanth M P, Rtn. Gyanesh Mehta, Rtn. Ramachandra M T, Rtn. Ravishankar D (in no particular order, E&OE).Kudos to the Rotarians for making a positive difference!

(Editor's Note: It is noted that the interaction from the members has increased over the last couple of meetings. Is it the new seating arrangement that is doing the trick? It seems that it is more open to discussion. Must compliment the President and Secretary!)

Evenings – Winding Down

• Free your muscles – for instant relaxation after a stressful day, tense, then release all the muscle groups in your body; breathe deeply.

• Lift and drop your shoulders – lift your shoulders as high as you can, then drop them little by little.

• Go for a twilight walk – twilight is a beautiful time of the day. Simply hangout in the twilight enjoying the changing light.

• Never waste a starry night – on a warm, clear night, lie down outside on a rug and gaze up at the sky; after a minute, thousands of stars will appear.

• On a night of the full moon – enjoy your moon shadow. Go for a walk. Enjoy the magical glow of the moonlit landscape.

• Have a pampering footbath – to sooth your feet when you've been standing up all day.

• Have an evening bath – add 5 or 6 drops of essential oils for one tub of water; wash your hair.

• Listen to the relaxing sounds of nature – on a cd or a selection of sounds or the rhythm of ocean waves..

I asked my new girlfriend what sort of books she's interested in, she said: Cheque books. The easiest way to make your old car run better, is to check the prices of new car. What is the difference between men and pigs? Pigs don't turn into men when they drink. What's the difference between a good lawyer and a great lawyer? A good lawyer knows the law. A great lawyer knows the judge. Nurse: A beautiful woman who holds your hand for one full minute; and then expects your pulse to be normal. Boss: We are very keen on cleanliness. Did you wipe your feet on the mat as you came in? New employee: Yes, sir.Boss: We are also keen on truthfulness. There is no mat.

A: One woman brings you into the world crying & the other ensures you continue to do so. Santa enters kitchen, opens sugar container, looks inside and closes it. He does this again and again. Why? Because his Doctor told him to check sugar level regularly.
